Any Spring or Summer 2013 programs still taking applications.
So where I live there is a waitlist of about three years to start the ADN program. I would like to apply to any Cal States that have programs that start in Summer 2013 (so I dont have to break my rental lease). Do any programs start in summer or just fall 2013?

CNA Instuctor wants students to bath each other before real clinicals
I can see how you would have an issue with the instructor requiring you to take everything off. My point was that no one in my class had any problems giving partial bed baths because even though we 'disrobed' to preform them we were still wearing tank tops and small shorts so no one was violated. I am glad your director said that the instructor could not make you undress completely!

CNA Instuctor wants students to bath each other before real clinicals
I'm sorry but could you please replace the word 'that' with what you intend to say. I get easily confused sometimes. No LPN or RN (I'm not sure which your instructor is) would risk loosing their license by asking students to get necked as part of class! What do you mean by a full partial bath? There is a full bed bath and there is a partial bed bath, right? I don't see anything wrong with asking students to preform partial bed baths on each other, it is something you will all have to do to real people with real emotions just like yours when you move on to clinical.

Rant: I already hate my job
*hug* hang in there. If it makes you feel any better I wish I had your job or any CNA job, no matter how miserable the facility!

If I want to become a Dialysis Technician do I need to get my CNA Cert?
I have applied to dialysis tech jobs with a CNA cert and they never call me for an interview. They want someone who has completed a hemodialysis tech certification or at the very least phlebotomy... The two are very different jobs.

CNA + medical assisant
Thanks for the advice TheCommuter! I have noticed there are just about as many MA jobs here as there are CNA jobs (which is not many for both) and they pay between 12-14 an hour instead of 9-10 an hour. However all the shifts are 8-4 or 9-5 instead of the AM shift starting at 5 or 6. I did read that you do not have to be certified to work as a MA in Cali but some companies may require it. I'm going to go ahead and apply to the MA jobs here that don't mention certification is required in the ad posting and see if anyone has me for an interview, it can't hurt right? Since the class is free since I can get a grant I will plan to take it if I can't find a job before January!

CNA Instuctor wants students to bath each other before real clinicals
In my CNA class we gave each other partial bed baths. We were told to wear tank tops and boxer like shorts so that our partners could practice undressing the robe and dressing with a button up shirt as well as bathing one another. We did not actually bathe the other persons chest, just the areas not covered by the tank tops. The insturctor said something about how allowing another person to wash your armpits helps you see things from the patients perspective and understand what they will be going through. I don't see what the big deal is, it's not like you're doing peri care; now that we used the maniquins for!

I think I got fired before I even got to start my new job.
Yeah I'm signed up with a HHA and so far they have not had any openings other than overnights which they call and offer me even though I specified I'm only available from 7am to 4pm.

Anyone from a different state moving to CA for private nursing school?
Did either of you go to the IOT in Redding? I'm pondering applying but I'm not sure if I could get enough financial aid. It's either that or wait three more years for the local ADN program. Please spam me with your experience at IOT. Thanks

CNA + medical assisant
I am having trouble finding a CNA job during a day shift when my kids are in daycare. I would qualify for a WIA grant to cover tuition and supplies for a semester long MA program at the community college. Will I be more apt to find a 7-3 shift as a MA than as a CNA? My end goal is to become a RN and work in a hospital but the waitlist for the ADN program is 3 years so I have plenty of time to get there and right now I just need to support my family while making a difference. Thanks

I think I got fired before I even got to start my new job.
She is a licensed child care provider, she was recommended by the county office of education! None of the other referrals are able to take my kids by tomorrow night. I'm just glad that she realized she could not handle a spirited toddler and didn't do anything stupid, other than get me fired! I guess I'm not a CNA after all. From now on I am going to be very specific about only being available during the hours the St Josephs Children's Center is open, once I can get my kids back in that is. I just hope I can find one SNF or LTC that has a 7-3 shift open! I suppose it can't hurt to work at an ALF while waiting to get into nursing school.

I think I got fired before I even got to start my new job.
Thanks for the kind words! When my kids were napping my dog got an earful. The worst part is I drank a whole pot of chai tea before leaving so I'm going to be up till ten anyways. There are three in home childcares, the lady that kicked them out, one that is full (I asked about a waiting list but there are ten kids on it), and the third that I'm hoping will call by the end of the weekend. My kids were fine at the child care center they have been at for the past month, but they are only open in the day:( I'm going to call and ask them if they have any first shift positions if I don't hear from the other provider. I know something will work out eventually...

Thank you for your optimism! I doubt I will find alternative childcare because of my location. Would it be too out of line to ask if they have any first shift positions? When I interviewed I told them that day shift is what I would prefer so I'm guessing if they had any day shifts open they would have offered it right?

I think I got fired before I even got to start my new job.
I have had the worst day ever and just need to vent. I am a single mom and have no family near me. I use a county subsidy to pay for daycare. I was finally offered a CNA job but the shift is not when any centers are open and there are only three in home daycares that said they are open the hours I need. One is full, another other my kids started at today. The lady called me to complain my two year old was crying right after I pulled into the parking lot. Then she called the front desk and said there was an emergency with my kids and I had to leave. She kept calling my cell and the front desk (why did I give her the number!). My baby was barley there twenty minuets to have time to adjust and with her frantically yelling on the phone I don't blame him for crying. So even though I showed up fifteen minuets early to my first shift I did not actually get to stay for it. The HR manager said for me to call on Monday if I can work out child care and work for them or not. I'm so upset right now I wish i had someone to hug and cry other than my dog. All I want to do is have a chance to prove myself, show that I am a compassionate caring person and spend time making a difference in the lives of those in need!

If i become a CNA before nursing school where does it put me?
Your question is not clear to me. Some nursing programs require you to be a CNA to apply, some award extra points for the certificate. You do not get out of any classes just for being a CNA. A lot of pre nursing students work as CNAs while doing their pre requisite courses. It is great experience to have! Good luck with your first term of college.
