I attended Hawaii Job Corps CNA Program. You need to score above 571 for the math portion of the TABE. 573+ for the reading side. Those numbers are equivalent to 9th grade reading and math. They teach you about Infection control, vital Signs, handwashing, bed making, opening and closing procedures, HIPAA, OSHA, ambulation and much much more. Also please don't get confused with CNA and CMA's their different in the amount of education/ training they receive. If you plan on becoming a CNA don't come in thinking you won't wipe asses, you very well might. Job Corps Advice My advice if you go to Job Corps hit the ground running from day 1 and take the initiative. Show them you mean business! Advice #2 Do not get involved with the DRAMA. You'll regret it I promise you! Advice #3 Restraint: For example, teacher chooses story with an author named Chekoff. Students start associating Chekoff with jackoff. Immaturity takes over you and you start conjuring up nasty jokes. Why should you be concerned, well I'll tell why word spreads like a wild fire at Job Corps. Things you say can spiral out of control quickly. Students in JC come from all walks of life rape, homelessness, jail, military discharge, etc. Which leads me to Advice #4 Sensitivity: You never know what people's been through. Feel like starting jokes? Like "I'm gonna rape your momma!" That girl sitting next to you might have very well been raped. Which will not only destroy your reputation on campus, but very well could get you expelled. Advice #5: Don't violate the no-tolerance policy on campus, thinking of testing the system? You'll find yourself on the streets! Job Corps doesn't give you second chances!!! Advice #6 Common Area's: (residential only) When it's clean-up time( 10:00 PM) your roommates should not have to remind you of the time! It should be automatic the faster you get your share done, the faster you can go to sleep. Advice #7 CPP2 or Career Preparation Period: At the end of this course you will simulate a group interview with your teachers, counselor and residential advisor. All at the same time and room. Go above and beyond what they expect of you. Instead of using your index cards, reheorifice your whole speech in front of the mirror. Some people will say your crazy I say your smart. Using index cards in a real-world interview is not practical nor professional. Dress in a white collar-shirt with a tie and black pants to impress!
