January 6 Select Committee

Published

Things seem to be unfolding rather quickly. Former White House aides and advisors are scrambling to cover themselves as they receive subpoenas to appear and produce documents.

It’s rare when lawyers — as opposed to their clients — take the Fifth Amendment. But Jeffrey Clark, the former Justice Department lawyer who reportedly tried to help Donald Trump overturn the 2020 presidential election, is now claiming the privilege against self-incrimination to avoid testifying before the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. He has just been joined in that posture by one of Trump’s main outside legal advisers, John Eastman.

The lawsuit comes after the committee signaled it would pursue a criminal contempt referral against Meadows because of his refusal to sit for a deposition in the investigation into the Capitol riot. Meadows alleges that the subpoenas are "overly broad and unduly burdensome," while claiming that the committee "lacks lawful authority to seek and to obtain" the information requested.

And apparently Mark Meadows had a power point outlining how to overturn election results.

The 38-page presentation, entitled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 Jan," is dated one day before the Capitol riot. It's believed to have been submitted by Meadows after he was subpoenaed by the panel in connection with the insurrection.

averaging 11.6 million viewers most over 70 years of age.  Probably old folks homes have the TV on CNN all day like the airport used to force viewers to watch.

Stats from the above article:

An estimated 13.6 million of Thursday’s viewers, or 77 percent, were age 55 and older, Nielsen said. Only 705,000 viewers were 18 to 34.

Yes, but 70 years old VOTE.  ?

Cracks appear in Trump's standing among Republicans after Jan. 6 hearings

This is a point I can't understand after being glued to the TV for 16 hours watching January 6th unfold and all the violence that was viewed by my own eyes... along with watching the January 6th committee hearings.

Stunning turnaround': GOP strategist explains Jan. 6 hearings' effect ...

..Some 57% of Republican respondents said they believed most of the protesters at the Jan. 6 riot were peaceful and law-abiding, a share essentially unchanged from early June. Four people died on the day of the attack, at least 140 police were assaulted, and one Capitol Police officer who fought against the rioters died the next day

While the article says "protestors at the riot", the actual wording on the poll question is "protestors gathered at the capitol".  That's a big difference.

Most of the protesters in DC that day were peaceful, while the rioters were not.

Well done, continue to cite your sources. It adds credibility to your arguments.

However, if we’re gonna throw numbers, there are approximately 258.3m adults in the us. So, 17.7m watching is 6.8%. However, the average of 11.2m watching all of the hearings comes in just over your 3-4% claim at 4.3%.

That being said, you didn’t say watching the hearings, you said following the hearings. And wording changes everything in polling. If following is the question asked, the response becomes “[n]early six in ten Americans (58%) are paying either a lot of attention (25%) or some attention (33%) to the House January 6th hearings.” Big difference.

You obviously don’t ride rescue. Game & talk shows are on the tv at alfs, not the news.

9% think Jan 6 is a issue to consider when voting.

This simply isn't that important to most people.

Do you think that it's dangerous for so many Americans to be ambivalent about an obvious attempt, orchestrated and cheered by a republican president and republican members of congress to overthrow presidential electing results and up end the constitutional Republic?

Why do you think such an attempt to end our republic is so unimportant to so many people?

Most people anywhere are unaware of their government's politics.  The worst the politics, the less educated their public.  A little less than half of our country is unable to decipher lying pep talks from policy decisions. People busy working and raising kids may not have the time to watch a 2 hour hearing.  But people in airports sure do and I doubt they are even counted in the audience rating.   The Dems aren't doing an awful job  of consolidating to agree on a platform.  The Republicans, however, have no plan except for a corrupt supreme court to do their bidding. Most the  time they are are throwing their feces around in their Congressional cage.  Big difference in behavior and seriousness between the two.

People in airports are working on their laptops, listening to music or audiobooks, watching TikTok, or hanging out in restaurants.  I've taken somewhere near 100 flights in the last two years, and except for the bars that usually have sports on, I don't think I've seen a TV.

Many people don't realize what's going on in the world outside their bubble.

That's too bad for MaybeeRN, she thinks lots of people are watching TV in airports.

This. Politics is fascinating to follow if you’re not worried about putting food on the table or dealing with any other problem on the bottom of mazlow’s hierarchy. And then there’s the problem of getting information within your own bubble of beliefs. Someone who only gets info from huffpost or talking points memo is keeping themselves just as insulated as those who only follow oann, newsmax, breitbart, etc. The lies from the left sites aren’t as egregious, but the reporting is still skewed.

I would agree with most of that, although I'm not sure how you determined lies from one side are more egregious than the other.

I'd also add, just as dangerous as the lies, are the stories that are not covered.
