January CEP applicants?

Published

Hi fellow students! I am applying to the CEP program for the Summer 2016 start (NAU)- I know the deadline is coming up January 30... just wondering who else is applying/has applied, and how you're feeling? Excited to start? Nervous you won't get accepted (like ME!)? Just wanted to say "hi" and get connected!

Specializes in L&D, Trauma, Ortho, Med/Surg.
Personally I say wait until you get accepted somewhere to buy textbooks, because your first choice may not be where you end up. SCC doesn't use potter fundamentals, for example. I just think it's too much of a gamble to start w those as it varies by edition and author. I could see starting to buy a nclex review book and a drug guide by Davis though! [emoji4] I would say keep your eyes out for approved shoes (all black or all white no logos and no perforation to prevent contamination) and you'll want a few pairs of scrubs so see if you can find gals who sell them once they graduate as they usually sell for like 5$ a piece as opposed to 25$ish. Start saving for a decent stethoscope too, the better the stethoscope the easier to hear! I got a littman classic II for 75$ on Amazon and it is miiiiles from what some schools provide! Otherwise enjoy your free time! You will have very little of it once you start lol I look at cleaning my house as taking a break/relaxing now [emoji21]

Right - I would never buy books until I had a list in front of me. I already have the Littman classic II, so I am glad to know that is a good one. And what kind of shoes are "no perforation"?? Are you talking shoes similar to clogs?

Thank you for all the information , it was very helpful. I was looking into the books, they said starting block one the books would probably be close to a thousand:( but that we would use them through the blocks. What type of shoes would you recommend ?

So by no perforation I mean nothing a needle stick could pass trough or fluids would be able to seep through so to speak! Basically no cloth tops! I got dr scholls work shoes at famous footwear for like 34$ and they're not exceptionally ugly lol and clogs are fine I just think they can't be backless from my understanding. And at SCC specifically the books are close to 1000$ if you just straight up buy them from either the bookstore or brand new all from Amazon. I personally have spent about 400$ getting around 13 books. I'm one of few though. I was pretty diligent about finding girls who were selling new books and most who were sold them at half price or threw in a book for free. The issue with books is many of them require codes for online viewings and so that makes it hard to buy some of them used. I wouldn't stress about books until you get to the blocks though.

The school's didn't give a definite list for books until orientation but there are ways of getting an idea. I went into the school bookstore site and looked. GCC have a website you can view the current block 1 list but remember all school's are different and they are always subject to change.

I got all my books used from all over for and bought the access codes from evolve for a total of 400$

I ended up gettin all balck skechers work shoes with memory foam and really love them.

What mrs.bookworm said!!^^

Just applied today with NAU/GCC as my first choice! Good luck everybody!

Yes I just got a Littman classic III also, that is about it and some all white nike shoes. I guess i will wait to purchase textbooks. :sarcastic:

Hey guys! I applied today, woohoo! My top choice is Estrella, then GateWay (I want accelerated) then Mesa, for NAU! I already have my Bachelor's in Biology from NAU so it just made sense to do that. :) what seems to be the consensus on when we get *fingers crossed* acceptance letters? And placements? I was nervous I wouldn't be eligible to apply- I took ENG 105 at NAU and it wasn't going to cover both 101 and 102, but my advisor made a call and had it waived for me, thank goodness! I'm nervous about my GPA.. I haven't calculated it... But it's not incredible. I finish HCR 240 and FON 241 in two days and am expecting A's in both so I hope I can send in an update to boost the GPA! I did get a 97 on the HESI though. Do you guys think I'll be okay if my gpa is not as high?

Hey! I'm at GateWay (Block 1/UIU CEP), and from what I understand, accelerated is not an option for CEP. Just thought I'd let you know :)

Ohhhh good to know! So what if I were to be placed into the accelerated program not as CEP and just do the BSN bridge starting in block 2 or 3? Would that work?

I don't know about the bridge, so you'd have to ask. As my pharm teacher so eloquently put it, doing CEP and accelerated at the same time would be death lol
