January CEP applicants?

Hi fellow students! I am applying to the CEP program for the Summer 2016 start (NAU)- I know the deadline is coming up January 30... just wondering who else is applying/has applied, and how you're feeling? Excited to start? Nervous you won't get accepted (like ME!)? Just wanted to say "hi" and get connected!

I'm already in the nau cep program, but I thought I would give you some peace of mind and let you know they haven't turned down any applicant who has met the requirements (GPA, pre-req fulfillment, etc.) thus far. That's of course not a guarantee it will continue to be that way, but I thought it might calm your nerves! :)

Wow, that does make me feel happy for sure! Anytime I talk about school, I leave it off with "well, that's if I am accepted..." I guess that doesn't mean that I will necessarily make it into the Maricopa end of things, but my GPA is nearly 4.0 and I have a great HESI score too. Thanks a ton for the reply.

If you make it into NAU cep you make it into maricopa by default. You can't make it into one and not the other. Hope that helps your nerves too. Good luck.

I also applied in January for the summer 2016 university start! Very nervous as well but hopefully we both get in! Fingers crossed! :)

Well first, I really hope you guys make it!

I am wondering, did you guys get your AGEC in order to fulfill your AHI, Global and Ethnic requirements (for NAU)? If not, what courses did you take?

That's what an advisor is telling me to do (get an AGEC), but no one I know has done it. I have only done one semester so I suppose I still have time, but I thought that all I had to do was take all the required courses from both schools, the HESI, info session, and apply. Do I need the AGEC too?

I fulfilled the AGEC and was informed of it around the same time as you in my educational career. I'm trying to think of how to word it most simply cause it's a little confusing. Basically, NAU requires a LOT of courses to be able to apply and all of those classes already start to fulfill AGEC requirements. As you can see in the NAU CEP information packet you also have those last four pre-req requirements titled "Aesthetic & Humanistic Inquiry" (6 Credits), "Cultural Understanding" (6 Credits), "US Ethnic Diversity"(3 Credits), & "Global Diversity" (3 Credits) necessary in order to apply. However, if you fulfill the AGEC, it will cover those above 18 credits. So when your advisor suggested you fulfill the AGEC, he or she is giving you the option to meet NAU requirements by taking less classes, in the sense that you're already fulfilling AGEC requirements and would only need 3-4 more miscellaneous classes to complete it, as opposed to however many multiples more classes it would take to just fulfill those requirements without the AGEC. No it's not required, but if NAU is for sure the school you plan on attending, it will save you time and money in the long run. I hope this makes sense!

You explained it well, thank you! I understand now and I can definitely see why they suggested getting it. Btw, congrats for making it! :)

Awesome! I haven't applied for CEP yet - I literally just finished my last final today - hoping the instructor posts grades early so I can apply this week. It is not fun to wait in adivisor lines!

I didn't do the AGEC route (I needed two science classes to fulfill degree requirements, and I din't feel like taking them). I already had classes that fulfilled the AGEC courses, (philosophy is one, I don't remember what else)...the one I took to help fulfill was HCR230 - I think it was called Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness. There are a few others they will suggest to you if you need help choosing which will fulfill the requirements.

One reason to go for the AGEC is for priority status - if you have a degree then you'll have priority over someone that does not...if it comes down to that.

Thanks for the info and help! :)

Can I ask how many semesters it took you to finish all the prereqs/coreqs?

I personally think if you're just starting out in college and don't have miscellaneous credits than the AGEC is the way to go, but yea definitely not if its just 1 or 2 odd classes left to fulfill your requirements. And idk if you're asking me but it took me personally 4 traditional and 1 summer semester to complete all my pre and co-requisites, however I wasn't full term every semester. Two of those semesters I only took three classes if I'm remembering right.
