Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.
We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?
Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.
I'm not downgrading BC. But it's a 2 year college.they should basically follow what 2 year colleges like miami dade and others are doing. Not pumping the requirements for no reason. Messing with the requirements is why a lot of us are just now getting into the program. Ok put yourself in my shoes or in a lot of our shoes!! last year I was ready to apply to the program I had chemistry ap 1&2 chm and enc1101. Then at the last minute they changed the requirements to college math and you had to have micro!! ***!! I wanted to cry! That's what I'm ****** about. I could've been half way through the program by now. And I'm sure many of you would have been in the same position too.
Hm. I've been in your shoes and possibly worse. Only because I worked my kaboodle off did
I get into the LPN-RN program. I didn't need micro when I applied so maybe that's the difference. I don't like arguments but I get offended when I hear people say that BC is JUST a 2 year college which it actually isn't. It's a four year now. RN-BSN. Just because a school is top in Ivy League status doesn't mean they're good in nursing. I had a choice and chose BC. My mother graduated from there and my bf started the generic program when I started the transition program (he's retracking sadly) but I'm proud to be a future BC nurse graduate just like you guys will. :)

Yes but to get your bsn at BC you have to have an RN license . BC Wasn't my first choice but, hey it's cost effective. It's tough out here and I'm not about to pay over 40k in school loans. My first choice was BARRY but they are too expensive, they even offered me a price reduction because I'm catholic, still didn't help. So hey BC helps my pockets.
So uncalled for. I highly doubt scores from one exam dictates who's smarter than who, or who'll be the best nurse for that matter. Just because BC's changes to the admission requirements have you feeling some type of way, insulting those who've made it this far, including myself, is not called for. We all had hurdles to jump over to get here, just as every other cohort before us did but the standards that were set for us doesn't mean we're going to be "dumb nurses", since a 75% minimum on the HESI, just doesn't equal a smart nurse.Yea. They dropped the HESI score from 80% to enter to 75%. It's ridiculous and quite messed up to us. They're dumbing down the requirements needed. We need smart nurses!
And you are? Because for the last few posts everyone else read commented, and have moved on to other issues. Please leave the past posts in the past. Also, it's not just me. If you read the post you so adamantly feel offended your innermost being, you'd have also ready "cohort". Thank you.[/quote']I don't care about what everyone else is posting now. Your comment was the first one I saw when I logged in. I felt the need to comment, and I did, it is a public forum, and if I choose to bring the past hour back to the present, then so be it. Thank you.
"We need smart nurses" not every nurse is smart I had to tell the nurse taking my blood the other day for my titers she had to put gloves on...I was furious. She looked at me like I was crazy, but I told her if she didn't put gloves I wouldn't let her take my blood. Oh and did I mention that before she took my blood, we had a conversation about her experience in nursing school... She had one of the highest gpa's in her class...so yea we need smart nurses with high hesi scores but this one forgot to put gloves on when attempting to take my blood. I'm not in nursing school yet but I'm pretty sure when handling needles and blood you gotta wear gloves!!!!Something so simple. I feel like with nursing you gotta have the SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE. But a hesi score should not determine anything. I'm going into nursing school humble as heck, that nursing student sitting next to me, I might think they're slow but they've got everything down to the T.

There's a difference between smart and careless, some health professionals tend to become careless after years on the job, not just nurses.

No No No....
@Butterfly you did step on some toes with that remark. Some posters are not posting there comments because they don't want to be in the midst of drama. At times your response to posts sound rude, and the tone of your post can be rude. Yes sometimes you give advice, and it may come off as being unsolicited. This is a forum and yes we have a right to are opinion, but you also have to show some respect to others. As a matter of fact many of us are wondering. Why do you constantly linger on this thread when? Most would think you should be studying GIGU. I'm just saying you make nursing look easy with all this free time you demonstrate on allnurses.
Now the last thing I want is this thread to be shut down because of cattiness. We all need to respect each other and be mindful of the things we say.
Moving on...Does the sponsorship officials from the Memorial and Broward visit all three campuses or just one? Is it after your first semester? How many student to they seek to assist? Thanks.
How You Doing Getting to Great.
Does the sponsorship officials from the Memorial and Broward visit all three campuses or just one. Yes
Is it after your first semester? Yes
How many student to they seek to assist? They don't give a number.
Hope that helps.
So would you rather have a careless nurse with high scores in nursing school. Or a nurse that is passionate and has knowledge when it comes to hands on skills? Lol I'm just sayin. :)[/quote']I could care less about scores, I mentioned nothing about scores in my post. I would not want to be under the care of a CARELESS health professional period, CNA, Nurse, doctor or etc.

Well if you want to bring up HESI scores and whatnot take it up with the nursing department. I did not create it, but there is correlation between exams because what are exams for if not to gauge how well you know the material OR skill? Did I at ANY TIME say all nurses who have lower HESI scores are dumb? I think at one point I even mentioned I wouldn't want a smart nurse who's like Nurse Ratched. Don't twist my words. I came onto this thread to help newer and oncoming students. No fights.
