January 2014 Broward College

Published

Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.

We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?

Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.

And another thing. ITS BROWARD COLLEGE it's not like it's the U.M. Nursing program! Or HARVARD. A lot of people were upset when the gpa requirements were risen. MIAMI DADE's is a minimum 2.5 and I believe PALM BEACH Is the same.. It's a two year college so in my opinion the requirements are just fine! I have a 3.4 gpa I worked my ass off for it... But an academic success plan really broward college?

Wait.....:roflmao: I want to see the patient who died because a student HESI was 75%.

3.6 over here.

EXACTLY... Jj8830

At the end of the day we got in. a lot of students would kill to be in our position. So come JANUARY lets show them. I worked my butt off in pre reqs and I'm taking that positive energy with me into the the nursing program. "Keep calm it's in God's hands". :)

HESI= :mask: Okay I digress.... I love this thread I don't want no hard feelings. :banghead:

Wait.....:roflmao: I want to see the patient who died because a student HESI was 75%.

Why? That's a little morbid.

Broward College and Miami Dade albeit community colleges are top nursing schools. Just because U.M. and Harvard are Ivy Leagues doesn't mean a thing. Try having a Nova nurse who's afraid to touch a patient as opposed to BC nurses (which you guys will be). So idk why you're downgrading BC. You didn't have to come here. I agree the success plan is stupid. Idk why that was implemented, just like that "college success skills" class needed in order to retrack. Waste of money and fin aid does not even cover it.

Yep I know a few of them who wish they were Accepted. "With a Success Plan". :smokin:

Lol one of my parents work in a hospital... And he always talks about the dumbass nurses he works with. He doesn't know how they got through nursing school because they're slow. Haha and I've seen them. We'll be fine as long as we keep our heads up and pray. Think about it's 18 months we get through process 1 boom math boom process 2 and pharm BOOM! Then we get a six week vaca or we start our second semester. And by the end of the summer we'll have a year left. WE GOT THIS LIKE I SAID KEEP CALM ITS IN GOD HANDS!! :) :) :)

BOOM WE GOT THIS....

Well 2 years ago a 2.5 gpa was the requirement in the broward nursing program. The hesi DID NOT have a minimum score they pretty much went by the average. I remember this because I sat down with my advisor and went over it. So these new requirements aren't exactly "new". They changed the gpa and requirements last year To minimum gpa of 3.0. I also heard that they were going to raise the gpa to 3.4 which never happened because it would be too hard to get into the program. Think about it they lowered the requirements because they couldn't fill the seats. No seats filled = no money made by the college. The first semester of nursing school is the most expensive. It's all about money.

No seats filled because a lot of students don't want to go there. Lol luckily for them they're getting some business because they're pretty cheap compared to their competitors and there aren't any other community colleges in the vicinity.

We have an ex-instructor from BC at my school now. And she said my friends (who still teach there) are brutal. To the point where she was like "geez you're going overboard" but you come out a good nurse.

I may apply to BC, but it's not my first choice. For those of you scared of south campus, go with an open mind! Forget the horror stories and think positive! People graduate from south campus every year. Think of it that way. If they can do it, so can you!

I agree with everything fearless said up thread. Good post. I remember when I was applying to BC back in '06 and the required GPA was 2.5. Lol Scores don't mean everything. It counts some, but doesn't define if you'll be a good nurse or not. (Talking about the HESI).

Good luck to all!

Wait.....:roflmao: I want to see the patient who died because a student HESI was 75%.

Exactly. Lol I'm really laughing out loud.
