Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.
We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?
Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.
There trying something new. And people that didn't do well on the hesi are in the program. I had a good score so I was confused with that but she was explain that the student with the success plan has to go to south. And they plan on helping them succeed. It doesn't make sense. Cuz there bring them to the hardest campus.

Yea. They dropped the HESI score from 80% to enter to 75%. It's ridiculous and quite messed up to us. They're dumbing down the requirements needed. We need smart nurses!
@Butterfly6890 yes we need smart nurses. However I've worked in this field for a long time & some nurses aren't bright as the brightness crayon in the box. Then you have some who are smart, but are a pain in the ____ & I emphasize on that! In addition to the smart ass nurses who makes another nurse who is well skilled, caring, a knowledgeable feel like crap maybe he/she aren't bright either. Making your colleague or classmate feel like crap is so mean. We don't need those kind of nurses either. Don't get me wrong I want a smart nurse, but give me a nurse who is compassionate, knowledgeable, caring, & can give me the care I need. Now with that begin said, here are my HESI scores A&P 76 Reading 76 Math 82 Vocabulary 82 Grammer 84. I have an 80% overall Hesi. My core classes A&P 1 lec. A, A&P lec 2 A, A&P lab 1 B, A&P lab 2 B, Mac1105 A, ENC 1101 A. So this future nurse needs a "Success Plan" . I laugh... Haha.... I refused to be labeled by anyone. Yes I may be going to south but, I will be A RN come 2016. This is not a personal attack, but I'm making it clear on behalf of everyone who has a "Success Plan". YOU MADE IT!!! This wasn't something that was handed to you. We earned it by coming to class, studying , & taking the HESI. It was pure blood, sweat, & tears. By the way I was told to higher my scores but, sometimes "If something isn't broke don't try to fix it". I gave them what they wanted, it's not my fault they had an hidden agenda.
AGAIN no hard feelings.

For the lowering of HESI scores I feel is an insult. Why did previous students for 30+ years have to work so hard to get the HIGHEST scores to even get their foot in the door yet NOW, make it easier for the next generation of nurses to enter. My cohort feels the same way. It's pointless to have a compassionate nurse if she/he can't calculate the correct dosage or injects air instead of insulin (yes, it actually happened in my clinical by someone else) the same way it is pointless to have a battleaxe like Nurse Ratched no matter her intelligence level. I didn't take your post personally because I'm currently in the program and know how hard I worked for it, but I dislike the idea of changing to make it EASIER in a profession that NEEDS precision in human care. Just my two cents. You can take it or leave it. Either way, these exams aren't easy so they'll weed out people who are either in it for the very wrong reasons or those who just weren't meant for it. :/
Who is attending south campus!? I live in coconut creek and there making go to south campus... I had the longest phone call with south campus dean. Smh I don't understand why do BC makes all these crazy changes at the last minute and then when things go wrong they run back to the original plan.
We would be living within the same vicinity. I hope their not taking us as their new experiment for their new changes. Anyway let's make the best of it. Just like CM said, we all were accepted into BC's Nursing program, NOT the campuses. I have to remind myself that all the time. I don't mind going to South as long as I get help with my child, and that is my only concern. I believe that God will make a way because he always has...I just nee to be STILL and let God. That being said, Congrats to everyone!
Can anyone address if their will be an Orientation before the program begins? How will we know what book to purchase and what attire (uniform) we will need for theory and clinical. Thanks
Well 2 years ago a 2.5 gpa was the requirement in the broward nursing program. The hesi DID NOT have a minimum score they pretty much went by the average. I remember this because I sat down with my advisor and went over it. So these new requirements aren't exactly "new". They changed the gpa and requirements last year To minimum gpa of 3.0. I also heard that they were going to raise the gpa to 3.4 which never happened because it would be too hard to get into the program. Think about it they lowered the requirements because they couldn't fill the seats. No seats filled = no money made by the college. The first semester of nursing school is the most expensive. It's all about money.

Yea. I figured it's about the money. Doesn't change the fact that lowering standards to enter may end up affecting the patients. :/
