January 2014 Broward College

Published

Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.

We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?

Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.

To answer my own questions here are my thoughts.

What have you been doing to prepare for this? Well I'm getting pointers from some of my girlfiends who are previous grads from BC. I was told to read and or invest in a couple of Fundamental books for nursing and Test taking Techniques for Nursing. I really don't have the time now to look at them now however when summer starts I will.

What preq's do you have left to take? I only have Micro and Mirco lab to take once I'm done I will apply for the program in August.

What inspired you to become a nurse? I am a 2 degree student. I was about to open the 2nd phase of my business when the economy took a dive. Before I was a business owner I worked as a PCA at Memorial for 8yrs. Therefore, the love of nursing was the next best thing to being a Childcare Facility owner.

Is BC your first school of choice? Yes it is however I am looking into Keiser and maybe City College.

Are there any other programs your interested in? No

I too am trying to get all my pre-reqs done for January 2014. I have all my courses done expect microbiology, which I am taking in the summer. I still have to take my HESI.

I'm taking Micro at North campus. I'm still working on the Hesi as well.

Are you taking it for this semester or the summer?

@Dolce37 i'm taking it in the summer. I just orderd my books on Amazon. They were a bit cheaper. $119 for the textbook instead of $197.00+tax. I also bought the Photographic atlas that was suggested for some Professors as a Study Guide and others it was required. Next week I will go to the school and buy the lab book. I'm so happy that this is my last class before I can apply for the program. I still need to find time to study for the HESI. I'm a bit nervous because you can only take it once every 6 months. Next week Thurs. I'm going to check out Keiser College just in BC doesn't work out. I really hope so. Maybe I'll check out Nova as well.

Hello everyone,

To prepare for the nursing program, I took Micro w/ lab, college algebra and religion this semester. And to be honest I was in for a rude awakening because micro was waaaaay harder than I bargained for. Lab was fine but lecture has given me a run for my money.

I am done with all my preq's, so now I am preparing for the HESI and taking courses to later get my BSN.

What inspired me to become a nurse was when I graduated high school, my first job out of school was an activities assistant in a nursing home. I really enjoyed doing activities with patients and their families, but working in this position gave me more insight to what nurses do and I've been hooked ever since. But something that's motivated me even more and gave me even more drive to become a nurse, was when my mom was diagnosed with SLE.

BC is my first school of choice, and then MDC.

Good luck everyone!!

Whatever other school(s) you maybe looking into, make sure that school is NLNAC accredited because you may not be able to pursue your BSN or higher. Keiser is NLNAC accredited but City College is not. Here is the link to check a potential schools accreditation, (in case you may not have known): :)
