Ivy Tech Thread

Published

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

Last night I was able to get into Blackboard within a few minutes of making my post here! I didn't restart my computer or anything, but it just worked all of a sudden. Must have had something to do with the CC maintenance.

Thanks LN, I didnt even realize you could do that. I've only tried to get into blackboard via CC. awesome!

Anyone know anything about when the nursing program holds orientation for people accepted for Fall? Or what kinds of things have to be completed prior to starting in August (immunizations, CPR, etc). Just thinking out loud.

Melissa - I'm sure it'd be a huge pain, but we could probably look back through 126 pages of this thread to see if anyone posted those requirements for when they were starting.

I'm guessing at least Hep B vaccine series, Mantoux/TB test, CPR certification, tetorifice shot probably... Um then I can't make any guesses after that.

My work offers Hep B shots for free for employees, and requires TB testing every spring and both of these are free. I did my Hep B shots with them when I started back in 07 because I was pretty sure someone on here had mentioned that. I got my tetorifice shot back in 2004 I think it was when I was bit by a cat when I worked for a vet. My work offers a free cpr certification every month, so I'm going to try to sign up for the class next month.

I think someone had mentioned the chicken pox vaccine too, but I had that when I was like 6 and I don't know if there's records of that anywhere.

Here is my to do list from last fall...it might vary a little campus to campus but it's basically the same, unless they changed stuff from last year, which you will find with ITCC Nursing Program that is completely possible LOL!

here is the link if you don't want to wade through everything to read other posts around the same time with the same subject.

I really don't remember how much the fees were. I got a pell and a loan so it was all covered.

My uniform (top and bottom) was around $30, We were able to go anywhere we wanted as long as we got Cherokee brand hunter green. We could buy what ever white lab coat we wanted. Most can be found for around $20-30.

Oh yeah...the books were expensive, just remember though you won't have to buy many more in the other semesters. I think the price was around $800.

That is incorrect information. The books you get at the beginning are not all of them. You still need to purchase a separate OB and a separate Peds textbook.

New RN 09,

Not necessarily incorrect- at the SB campus, the OB and Peds were included in our bundle...and she said you wouldn't have to buy MANY MORE books- she didn't say no more books.

Be nice!

Thank you wishN, that's very helpful!

yep, I said not many more. I was trying to relay the fact that although the number is big that 1st semester, none of the other semesters are close.

I am in my second semester of a part time program for ASN in Logansport. I did not have to buy any "required" books this semester. Next semester we have been told we are using are Med Surg books again. So I won't have to buy anymore books until my 4 th semester when we are doing OB Peds/Psych rotation.

And yep you have do get CPR and AED certified before hand. I forgot to add that to my list LOL!
