  1. I remember this 2 week wait just a year ago. It's really stressful. Good Luck to those who get in; I'm sorry to those who didn't get in. Just wanted to give some input to those who didn't get in the program they were hoping for. Keep your chins up and don't give up on your dreams and hopes to become a Nurse. I know getting straight A's and then it all coming down to the Teas really sucks. It's a really hard test. An instructor made a valid point when I was applying, a perspective I hadn't looked at before. She said that the students are the ones to blame for making it so competitive. This is very true. People keep retaking classes to get A's and retaking the Teas to get higher scores. The school just accepts the higher scores, which of course they would do that (you know what i mean?). I do agree with some comments that said that they should tell you how competitive it is. When I first started back at Ivy Tech, I had NO IDEA how hard it was going to be to get in the program. I also had no idea how hard the actual program would be. It's no joke. It is really difficult. I think I'm actually glad that nobody told me because I don't think I would have had enough confidence in myself, caused me to switch career paths, and I would have missed out on how wonderful Nursing is. Long sentence there, sorry! I am sure they would love the expand their programs, but one thing I've learned while doing this program is that clinical spots are hard to come by as it is. I know the dept is fighting against all the other schools for clinical opportunities. We had to do other activities for clinical hours because they didn't have enough full time clinical space available for us, and I am in Indy; we have loads of hospitals. But if you didn't get in DON'T GIVE UP!! reapply for Jan start date. They have fewer applicants for January. Also, if you only want RN, consider applying for LPN as well. you can always transition over. you can get your LPN, then start working and let your employer pay for your RN degree. OR get your CNA, start working, then let your employer pay for your LPN or RN. if you don't have your co-reqs done, go ahead and get them finished in the meantime. Keep your chin up and keep focused. Don't let your dream go away. Start working at a hospital as a care tech or any position that allows you to get your foot in the door. This will give you a heads up on Nursing, especially clinicals. For those who got in: Congrats. You will succeed. Keep your head up, stay focused, and know there are are peaks and valleys in this Nursing school journey. If you have a hard day, just focus on taking things one day at a time.
  2. csab- I'm not sure what is going on with the books. I would check with the bookstore. Are you taking summer classes? Class doesn't start until June so you've got some time. I am sure you'll get an email from the instructors. If the books are changing, they would know.
  3. What did u decide? Where did you apply? Ob and Peds is nothing like you've been told. There is a lot of information to be covered in a short amt of time and that is NOT The instructors faults. The OB instructor is excellent. Indy has really wonderful clinical opportunities. Don't listen to what anyone else says. The person you talked to is ONE person. I had the class and I enjoy it. so now you've talked to one person who disliked it and one person who liked it. everyone has opinions....you know the saying. =) I remember being really nervous about getting in, and which program to choose. You have good scores and grades so I'm sure you will get in with no problems. Good luck!!
  4. Don't sweat it. Last semester it was practice w/ a dry cloth. no water or anything. I was REALLY WORRIED and it didn't even end up being a big deal at all. No exposed parts of any kind. I was really relieved. and don't worry...people are going to be nervous and not paying any attn to ya. How about this: just go to the back room and take the back corner bed. that way you can kind of hide a bit from everyone. You won't be right in the middle of everyone. I promise it isn't as bad as you think.
  5. so it's the end of week 2, how is everything going? how are you guys (and gals) doing? getting adjusted?
  6. During week 7 (I believe) Ivy tech RN/LPN's must take a dosage calculations test. Can anyone tell me what kind of math is on this test? I would like to get a general idea of what I should expect. The self study book starts with fractions and easy math and goes from there. It the test mainly figuring dosages only, is there some easy fraction stuff, or is there stuff about figuring IV fluids? Is this as difficult as it gets, or does it get more difficult?...prob like this: Demoral, 35mg IM is ordered. Meperidine is available as 50mg/mL. How much would you adminster? (this is a simple problem) I'm trying to study for my classes AND independently study for this test and I would like to get some idea of how difficult this test is going to be. We must pass w/ an 80 to continue with the program. Don't want to lose the whole thing on this test!!!! any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks:bluecry1:
  7. thanks for that info! I am SOOO Scared and nervous!
  8. I will PM you. Loved my class, loved my instructor!
  9. WHen the class first started there were 60 ppl on the roster. Today there ae 55. I guess 5 dropped. Interesting. I wonder if they got their book and got overwelmed or what. ?
  10. I always do loans and for some reason, they always charge me the darn $25 late fee!! I don't think that's right b/c I made arrangements, and it's not my fault that the loans come in late. I try to do the loans as soon as possible. They've done it to me every semester so now I just assume there will be a late fee. =(
  11. I'm quite interested in mental health as well. After I had my 1st child, she had low blood sugar and was put in the NICU ward. I realized then that I couldn't work in there. Rocking the babies, feeding them sure, but not the IV stuff (like you said) and blood draws on them.
  12. I really REALLY want to take Spanish!! I don't know when I'll be able to fit that in though. maybe next summer. If not, then DEFINITELY after I graduate. I will be taking it at one point.
  13. Quiz is up. I freaking missed 2 due to dang typos on my part. crap! I transposed 2 numbers TWICE. I was so darn nervous. ack! I just got on to see if it was anything like the lab, where u can do it over and then I couldn't. I didn't have a pencil or calculator or anything. had to go find it all real quick. I guess I should have been prepared. duh! I thought I read last semester that they could retake the quizzes so I was hoping it was the case this time. Looks like you can only take the quiz 1x and you only have 60 mins.
  14. I have 3 tabs available: Run Lab, View Report, Submit Report. Mine have been there. were there earlier when i finished, on there now that I logged back on. Maybe you'll just have to log in again. (?) I finished mine but have not submitted it yet.
  15. You can close your lab, restart and save info so you can finish later. You just have to submit to instructor when you are done.
