Ivy Tech Thread

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

Ilovemywife, so how do you feel about the fact that you took all pre- and co-reqs online? Was it hard to then jump right into face to face nursing classes? I am going to be taking most if not all of my pre- and co-reqs online as well but I have wondered how it will be to then have to transition to face to face nursing classes.

I did well with my on line classes because I am a good reader, with good comprehension. By the time I drive to school, walk to the building, pee, and have a few minutes to spare, it is 35 minutes for me. That is each way, so 4 classes, that is over 4 hours a week just on the move. Not to mention, the lectures which go slower than reading sometimes. On line is predominately open book testing too.

Now, as far as face to face. If you noticed, I am an older guy, so my first classroom experience for quite a while was a little strange. I actually like it though, everybody in our class is so nice, and we have a common goal. BTW, I didn't take all my co-regs yet, I still have three to go for the RN program.

I was just curious as to how many people have worked in the medical field before, or if you have family memebers that. For me personally, my sister and best friend are nurses. My brother in law was a paramedic and my other sister a pharmacy tech. Pre children and when my oldest child was young I worked mostly in the Emergency Room, but have work on med/surg and tele floor too as a ward clerk. Since hubby was in the military we moved several times. I liked it because I always was able to find a job at the local hospital. There are so many hospitals where I live now, that many people work in one, doing one thing or another.

I'm new here too, and I have also been reading many of the post finding lots of great info. I am starting Ivy Tech this summer. I am hoping to be able to apply for the nursing program in fall 2010. I am a mom of 4 kids, ages 16,10,2 and 1. I'm not quite sure how I will do it all, but I figure where there is a will there is a way :). Besides worrying about finding time to study, I am still trying to figure out who will watch my 2 little ones while I attend this Fall. I suppose it will all work out in the end. I need to go for it now :), I'm not getting any younger ;).

It looks like we will be applying at the same time. Are you applying to more than one campus?

Hiya FxAngel

My plan was to apply at Gary because it is closer to where I live. I guess I never really thought about it, or realized that Valpo offers Nursing too. I might end up applying to both. Applying to both I guess would give you better odds. I really never checked into how it works when you apply to both programs. I was so worried about getting my classes and everything together, I did not think that far ahead ;).

Hi Angel,

Have you checked out the "Waiting for Ivy Tech Acceptance Letters" thread? You might find some helpful information there! I think many posters have abandoned this thread and moved to that one :) HTH

Thanks mhnice. I think I have looked over every thread on here lol. I will check out the thread again. I just finally got up enough nerve to join and post ;).

Don't be skerred! This place is a wealth of information and support. Welcome!!

I'm pretty new to the board as well. I just took ANP 1, Eng 111, Psych 101, and Interpersonal Communications, all 8 week online classes, and somehow managed to get A's. I really enjoy the online classes, although sometimes to make sure that one learns as well as they would in an F2F classes, there are some pretty strict requirements. For example, my ANP final was 100 questions, comprehensive and proctored. We had to pass at 65%, or we wouldn't pass the class, no matter how many points.

Online classes are great for me, because I live 45 min from the nearest Ivy Tech, and honestly.....my brain works better at night time. lol

As long as you stay organized and do all of your assignments you should be fine!

To the PP that is taking Public Speaking online, you're braver than I am! I didn't think I could find 4 people to watch me do my speeches every week!

Has anyone taken HLHS 107-- the cna prep course? I am considering taking it over my summer break so that I can be getting some experience while I finish up my pre reqs for the rn program--- any thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing. If anyone has please share your thoughts on this. I was thinking about taking this in the fall or spring.

Hi all,

Just wanted to drop in and see what everyone is doing this summer. I would like to hear who is taking what classes this summer semester. Anyone taking more than two classes? Any tips on how to stay organized? How about students taking the summer off? What will your course load look like for the fall?

No classes for me this summer! I have all of my co-reqs finished (except the IVY 1cr class that I'll do whenever) and I'm starting the RN program in the fall :) I'm enjoying life *just* working full time instead of working and going to school ;P Reading lots of books for fun and trying to get in shape this summer so I'll be better prepared for school in the fall.
