Ivy Tech Thread- NOT in program yet (taking pre-reqs)

Published

I was wondering if there would be interest in starting an Ivy Tech thread for those not in any program yet, for those still working on Pre-reqs.

I am taking anp102 in the fall in BLoomington, Tech writing online, plan on taking my Teas sometime soon. Going to apply to several campuses for the ASN program.

They have added Intro to Chem and changed the Math pre-reqs now for Ivy Tech ASN as of Fall 08. They are going to grandfather Math 111 for a few semesters supposedly.

Thanks, I think that if one has a previous college degree, then they usually take credits from things like English/psych/soc etc. It's the science and maybe math classes that they usually require you to retake them if they are over 5-10 yrs old depending on the college. I have a degree so I hope my Eng and Psych will count; I never took math or sciences (well, I did take Chem 100) so I have to take those no matter what.

In case anyone is interested, I found an online Used Books for Sale/Wanted board that is through the Bloomington campus, but it seems like people who list on it are willing to ship books:

https://services.bloomington.ivytech.edu/bookstore/buysell/index.php

I haven't ever seen any boards like this through other campuses but I thought it was neat! Of course maybe I just am unaware of other ones that do exist. Has anyone ever seen any other boards like this thru other campuses?

which english class is the one that you learn about apa and mla formats? is it 111 or 112 or 211? i took english comp during my freshman year of college back in 1987, so i should get credit for 111 (although i haven't yet--sheesh, how long does it take for them to evaluate a transcript for transfer credit?) but since it has been so long since i've had to write a paper, i don't remember how to cite things or do a bibliography, etc. maybe i should just go ahead and take 111 just to refresh my memory? or is 111 more of a basic writing course and 112 or 211 is where you learn the specific apa or mla format that nursing school will expect you to know?

i have taken english 111 and 112. english 111 is where i learned apa and mla formats. i was expected to already know and utilize these formats when i was in eng 112. english 112 was to show us how to persuade our audience with evidence, explore arguments and things of that nature. if it has been a while, i would suggest taking 111 to freshen up. also if you are applying to ivy tech nursing, remember that your grade for english 111 determines the points you will recieve towards your total score (a=30 b=20 c=10) so, if you are transferring over anything less than an a, i would consider taking 111. :twocents:

I had an A- in my English comp so many years ago. I wonder if they would count that as an A (my college used pluses and minuses). Maybe I will just retake it though.

Hey does anyone know the answer to this? If you are licensed in Indiana and move to another state are you given a grace period to become relicensed in that state or do you have to retake the NCLEX-RN and pass and be licensed in that state before you can work?

I am considering a move after graduation, to Florida and I was just curious. The positions I have looked up require you to be licensed in the state of FL so I didn't know if there was any grace for a RN licensed in another state.

You usually can get licensure by endorsement. The best way is to contact the state's Board of Nursing and find out the specific requirements. Some states requires CEUs. No matter the state, you don't have to take the NCLEX again.

I was just wondering if anyone has taken chemistry online? I am taking microbiology this semester, and unfortunately the micro lab and chem lecture times overlap. I am currently signed up to take chemistry online thru another campus. I was just wondering how the labs and stuff work. Are you required to do labs at home?

Hey does anybody know if you can drop one section of a class and add back in a different section at the same time (thru campus connect) so that it's just like swapping one out for another? i.e. not totally dropping a course, just switching sections. I think if I do this it has to be today or tomorrow. I started Com 102 online this week and the syllabus/due dates all conflict in different areas of Blackboard, so I posted on the discussion board about it AND emailed the professor, and he has never responded at all. Nor has he ever made his presence known to the class on blackboard either. All my other online classes, the professors have said hello and responded to introduction discussion boards and have already been answering questions. . . I just feel like I would rather have a professor who is more involved. I know that all the Com 102 classes probably have all the same assignments, so I'm not looking to get out of certain assignments or anything. . . just have a bad feeling about the professor.

There is a drop/add tab under the student section of campus connect. You can choose to drop a course, and add in the new CRN at the same time.

Although I'm not sure how hasty I would be in changing class just because of the instructor. I've heard that, more or less, the outline for all online courses are supposed to be the same. This is a new thing so that supposedly one instructor's course won't be easier than another's. This could just be a rumor though.

Good luck!

Thanks, I went into my student schedule where the drop/add tabs are and the course I was considering switching won't let me drop online anymore. It's out of S. Bend and that region must have closed registration drop/add already. I know the course would be the same no matter which campus I take it out of; I was just hoping to maybe switch to get a more attentive professor. Classes have been in session for a week now and this professor has not once made his presence known. I, and a couple of other students, have messaged and emailed him and have never heard back. My other online professors have been very involved already, answering questions and participating on the introduction discussion boards.

Is this school Indiana State University?

No, Ivy Tech is a state-wide community college system. It has campuses in towns/cities all over Indiana. http://www.ivytech.edu
