Ivy Tech Thread- NOT in program yet (taking pre-reqs)

Published

I was wondering if there would be interest in starting an Ivy Tech thread for those not in any program yet, for those still working on Pre-reqs.

I am taking anp102 in the fall in BLoomington, Tech writing online, plan on taking my Teas sometime soon. Going to apply to several campuses for the ASN program.

They have added Intro to Chem and changed the Math pre-reqs now for Ivy Tech ASN as of Fall 08. They are going to grandfather Math 111 for a few semesters supposedly.

new pre-reqs from Campus Connect:

I only have math 111. I am applying for spring 09, I hope I dont have to take it. I really hate Math! Everything else looks pretty much the same. I would be interested in a thread for prospective nursing students. I think it would be beneficial for those of us that are applying or will be applying soon. :yelclap:

This semester I am taking all my classes online. I have Soc 111, abnormal psych 205, english 112, and Intro to Healthcare 101. Maybe some of us have the same classes....:anpom:My abnormal psych was posted already and seems like alot of work for first week. Anyone taken this online?

Which campus are you at?

I am downtown/lawrence.

I've never taken an online class. This will be my 1st time.

I'm also working on my prereqs. So far I've taken COM 102, IVY 104, and MAT 118. I have ANP 101 and ENG 111 this fall at Lawrence. Still have ANP 102, Micro, and Advanced Phys left to go.

I am at the Gary campus. Well, at least for this semester all my classes are online from gary. Good luck on teas test!

I'm doing my pre reqs too :) I finished up Math 050 and Psyc 101 over the summer (with As yay!), and then for the fall I will be taking ENG 111, ANP 101, COMM 102, and MAT 118. A full load.

THREE of those classes are online. I am getting anxious for Monday because my Communications class starts that day. English doesn't start until the end of September and Math doesn't start until October.

Melissa- what days are your ANP class? I have Mr. Evans...one girl on here said he was pretty awesome...but I am getting really nervous about that class.

I am also at NMC/Lawrence. If anyone is interested in getting together to study let me know! I could use all the help I can get...my 2 year old thinks he is 25 now!

I don't plan on applying until next fall, to hopefully start in the Spring 2010 semester...but I honestly think I am going to apply to at least Indy and Columbus and possibly others. I am willing to drive further if I don't have to wait another semester to get in!

kgle, what side of town are you on? you can pm me if you want...maybe we could get together to study ANP sometime and our kids could play while we study? we have an 18 month old and since i'm home with him during the day he doesn't get to play with lots of other kids. i work at night right now. anyway pm me if you're interested, no pressure.

i have j.b. for ANP, on tuesday nights, both lab and lecture. i've heard good things from a coworker. i really just want that syllabus!! i always feel better after i can sit down and figure out what my semester is going to look like. i guess they combine 4 sections from lecture and then separate us for lab. when's your class? i'm also taking ENG 111, online, and that's already on blackboard at least. doesn't look like it will be too bad. it starts monday and goes until 12/10.

you will do great this semester! i took COM 102 online over the summer and it was easy easy. also in the summer i took MAT 118 was fine online, i would have done poorly in a live class but online i could use my notes and book and got an A. my class was entirely independent, the instructor was there to answer questions and grade but didn't provide any info. there's a computer program w/ the book called my math lab and that's what teaches you everything--it's a great program. LMK if you need anything, if i can help i'd be happy to.

i'm looking at applying in 2010, too. right now i have it planned to hopefully start fall 10 but who knows. a lot of it depends on our son and when he seems ready to start preschool/day care.

Melissa- I live in the Broad Ripple area. That would be a great idea...I know my son loves other kids (although he might try to pick him up haha). It would really help me out to ask someone else questions and someone else actually interested in studying.

I am waiting for COMM to show up on blackboard, but it looks like it will be at the last minute tomorrow morning :) My anp class is tuesdays and wednesdays in the mornings. I started looking at my 118 book and got a little overwhelmed, its not as hard as it looks is it? I think communications will help me out in the workplace too so I am looking forward to it.

My stupid english books are on backorder!

I can give you advice about ANP at lawrence b/c I just did it last spring and got an A. I have lots of tips for you.

I had JB for ANP 101 @ lawrence. He is FANTASTIC! He is willing to really help you out and answer questions. I would always stay after for Lab and go over stuff with him. We always got out early during Lab.

TIPS:

You guys will have these "questions of the week". Be sure to sign up for the ANP 101 Group on campus connect. You will get your questions there. They are also posted in the hallway. These questions are ALWAYS on your test. You'll get five a week. Your instructor will tell you where to find it on your first day of class.

There is a lady (PM me and I'll give you her name and I have her email address) who teaches a Lab at Lawrence. She holds a Test Review on Saturdays before your tests. Cost is $10 at the Lawrence Campus. SHe goes over the important things that will be on your test, and tells you stuff that isn't usually on them. she has silly little ways to remember stuff. I found it to be very helpful.

For Lab- take a flash drive. You can upload all of the lab slides. they are the ones on your lab test so as long as you know them, you will be fine. I did this and only missed a total of 4 lab questions all semester long.

I didn't have Evans but I've heard he is ok. There is another guy who teaches and he writes the tests. he likes to put tricky stuff on there.

Also, we got to look at a Cadaver towards the end of the semester.

There are lots of great helpful websites that really help you with ANp 101.

They are:

http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu/home_pages/crimando/Tutorial_Big.htm

and

http://www.getbodysmart.com/index.htm

if there is anything else I can help you with, let me know!!

Oh yeah....for ENGLISH 111, I never even used my book!

Does anyone know what classes are available online for Bloomington Ivy Tech? This is all so new to me and truth be told, I have no clue where I need to start. I'm so green at this it isn't even funny :banghead:

I did go to Ivy Tech last week, but this was never brought up by one of the advisors, and since I'm not too sure about the programs I didn't even know to ask. It wasn't until I found this thread I knew about Ivy Tech having pre-requites available online.... I feel so stupid right now! :selfbonk:

I've been out of school for many, many years....Since 1980, so if anyone has information that would be helpful to me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm just scratching my head at this point, not really knowing where I need to begin...:(

Thanks! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

I need to talk to an advisor still about my math. When I started they weren't sure if CALCULUS from IU would count. Fricking calculus! I don't know why it wouldn't count since it's much more advanced, but I suppose I should get that taken care of so I won't have to think about it anymore.

It's nice to see that I'm almost there!

It won't let me edit because it's been too long, but I've taken all of those online so far except ANP 101 and Micro. All of my online classes except ANP 102 have been from the Bloomington campus. I did 102 through the Terre Haute campus.
