Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

ok so there is no way i can get anything higher than a "b" in a&p 101 at this point. i still have to take a&p 102 next semester, which i know will be even harder than 101. so now i am debating if i should retake 101 next semester along with 102 and hopefully get an "a" in my retake of 101. that way if i do get a "b" in 102, i will be applying with 3 "a's" and 1 "b" as oppose to 2 "a's" and 2 "b's" then i will just need to score high enough on the teas test...but even if i get a 90 on the teas (shooting high, lol) that will still only give me a total score of 203 to apply with. would this even be good enough to get in? or should i just not retake 101, stick with my b and work for a b or higher in 102 and just apply for the lpn program?? i am so mad i put myself in this position but at this point i just need some advice on what to do moving forward since i've already messed myself up with 101.

ok so basically they have switched to this higher one card so we can get the money on the card in the same amount of time as a paper check in prior semesters, but now we will have fees associated with using the card on top of that! and if we choose any other option it will take even longer...?! how is this making any sense?

yeah its all so stupid. i'm over it. i got my card yesterday. they charge you for online bill pay!

i would definitely retake it while you can. especially with the chance that we may not be able to retake courses anymore. that would blow if you ended up with two as and two bs, didn't get accepted, and then were stuck with those grades. at least you wouldn't have to be so stressed with 101 next semester since you already know what to expect.

KGLE- Yeah I can't believe you have to pay for online bill pay...I thought this was supposed to be more convenient for the student.

As far as retaking 101 yeah I will know what to expect so it should not be too bad. As long as I do better on the exams I should be fine. That is where I really messed up. So my new schedule will be 101 and 102, plus the CNA class, and then Dosage Calc. I guess I am going to drop COMM 102 and take that in the summer instead that way I won't be too overwhelmed especially with a new baby:) Are you still planning on taking the CNA Prep next semester? I am getting really excited about it. I hope I can get my immunizations in time though!

Yup! March 15th! I got my immunization record from my high school just in case. I am ready to buy all my books!

Me too...and scrubs lol:chuckle

I agree with kgle, take it while you can. I'm in the same boat as you, Emmi. There is no way that I can make an A in APHY101, so I'm going to retake it online next semester while taking 102 f2f. Hopefully I can work that out. ;-)

I haven't received my card yet, even though I got an email that it was sent on the 24th of November.

How are you guys doing? It's been pretty quiet in here lately.

It has been really quiet, I guess everyone is trying to get prepped for finals.

I know 101 and 102 are supposed to be hard but seriously I am wondering why so many people have to retake the class to get A's...at least most that I have talked to have had to, obviously not everyone but it is a significant amount. I wish they offered extra credit opportunities or something!

So Tara you will be taking 101 over too? I am scheduled for 102 online next semester and I am trying to get the same instructor for both. I wish I could get the same instructor for 101 that I have now because she is really good, I just messed up in the beginning...

Have you taken the TEAS yet? I am going to start studying the science portion so I can hopefully either take it the first time this month or beginning of January.

I'm taking 101 again next semester (if I pass this one...omg). I'm taking the same teacher. She's great...it's just me. Ugh. At least I'll know what to expect now. It's just irritating to me because I'm NOT a bad student, but I'm not doing as well as *I* think I should be and it's really making me angry with myself. Plus stressing me the heck out! You know?

I'm taking 102 face to face because I want to see if I do better with that than I have online. Perhaps the teacher can explain things better, I don't know. I just have my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed, lol.

I haven't taken the TEAS, yet. I'm hoping to take them during the break between the semesters.

I just talked to a girl that applied for the January program start date and did not get in...had 3 A's, 1 B, and a 90 on the TEAS! She got a B in 101 so she is retaking it this semester, but she got an A in 102 first time around, she said it was definitely easier for her than 101...so a little hope there:)

Wow a 203 (assuming that girl was in region) didn't get in? Unfortunately she must have been right on the edge b/c I know there were people that got into RN with 205. Did she not apply for LPN?

I didn't necessarily think 102 was easier than 101 . . . it's different that's for sure. Some chapters were easier and some were harder for me. Cardiovascular, blood, lymphatic, reproductive, that type of thing were easier, but Respiratory and especially Immune and Acid-Base Balances were harder for me.

Good luck to you guys!

Just took my lecture exam on the final unit (reproductive, endocrine, heredity, and development) and got a 76 :( lowest score yet. So I am definitely taking the final next week. I have to study my patooty off for those next week if I want an A. That scares me that three As one B and a 90 didn't get in...esp in January! Was she even an alternate?!

102 is just a lot different. It deals a lot more with physiology whereas 101 mainly is just identifying anatomy. You have to understand, for example, what a hyposecretion of ADH does and what disease it causes or what happens with LH and FSH levels decrease, why its important, and what the following events are. A lot more critical thinking.

Ugh, I am so tired. I have my lab exam Thursday and I need to study...but I am so tired and don't feel good. I had a pulpectomy done on my molar yesterday so I am on Darvocet and I have to have a root canal to finish it on Friday then a crown. I'm dead after all these stupid health/medical problems lately! I think I might go to bed early again and wake up super early in the morning.

I am so sorry to hear about your lecture exam. Hopefully you will do well on the final, in spite of your dental work! I had to have THREE root canals done on ONE tooth (in the front) a few years ago...why it took three I have NO idea. Then I had to get a veneer on that tooth. Last year I had to have all four wisdom teeth removed so I know what you are going through and it is HORRIBLE!!! The pain can radiate all the way to your ears and all through your jaw, then the pain meds remove you from the world lol. Definitely get some rest and I hope you feel better!

As far as the girl with the 203, I didn't even think to ask if she was an alternate, but Reeb on indymoms.com said she had thought the lowest for Indy was 201...so I don't know.
