Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

Hmmm Kara I don't know how it would work with financial aid. I will let you all know after our orientation on Tuesday what they say about summers.

Apparently you can now apply for financial aid just for the summer session. It's not included in the financial aid that you receive for fall and spring. At least that's what I was told in the FA office here.

Also, hypothetical question here. If you have a 4.0 and get a B in a class, then retake it and get an A, will you still have your 4.0 after receiving that A?

Weird...I was told that if you take the full 24 credit hours over the course of the fall and spring semesters, you don't have any grant money left over for the summer. Unless they increased the Pell grant or are offering another one!

To answer your question here is a situation:

say you have taken 6 classes with five As and one B

5 (classes) * 4 (gpa), then 1 (class) * 3 (gpa for B)= 23/6 for the average, equaling 3.83 GPA

Now, taking 7 classes in order to repeat:

6 (classes) * 4 (GPA) then 1 (class) * 3 (GPA for B)= 27/7

turns out to be a 3.85 GPA

So, no you wouldn't have a 4.0 because the class with the B would not fall off your transcript.

Thanks, Kara! That explained it well. I suppose a 3.85 is not so bad. ;-)

For the FA...I specifically asked the guy in the FA office about money for summer semesters and he said that there was a new policy in regards to that (I asked this past summer). I'm not really sure how it works, but he assured me that I could apply for more, if needed, and that I didn't have to worry about using all of my Pell money. Weird...and I hope that he's right!

Okay they say at least one summer is mandatory now. I would assume for people who start in the Fall, it might mean that the one summer that is usually a break in the Fall start schedule would now be mandatory? Not sure, since we are a Spring start class, so they didn't say anything about Fall start classes. But for us starting in Spring, we HAVE to go this summer (one class + clinical, 4 days a week, 5 cr total) unless we have a really good reason why we can't that we have to talk to them about.

Hmm I will have to ask about all of that when I go to the info session this month. I don't mind going in the summer...I prefer not to have a break so I don't forget anything...and also you get done faster!

Yeah that's the whole reason they are requiring it now, just to get people done faster. This past summer it was optional, and they had a lot of people sign up for it and they did a lot of work scheduling clinicals, and then a lot of people decided not to do it at the last minute. So that is why they are now saying it's mandatory, just so that they don't have that happen again.

I'm going full time (year around)...just want to get it done:)

Sweeeeet. Was able to calculate my 102 grade and right now I have an 88%. I also realized that I can miss 70 points, not 60. So basically...if I get a 9/10 on my next quiz I can still miss like 10 questions on each test and get an A :) Woohoo!

Good stuff KGLE! Does your class have weighted grades? I have been trying to figure out what I need to get in this 101 class in order to get an A but I can't figure it out...I'm just slow:)

Nope nothing is weighted thank goodness :) Are you taking yours online? I wanna say in 101 we could miss around 60 points and have an A...but I don't remember.
