Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....
Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?
I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.
And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!
Hey, on a good note...My teacher gave partial credit for the matching questions in the midterm, so I got 7 more points AND I found a discrepancy in one of the lab quizzes and she awarded me those points! Woohoo! She's also going to give partial credit on exam 1 for the matching questions (I'm not sure when) so that means a couple more points, yay! IF I can manage to be superwoman and make a 100% on all the other quizzes, along with the midterm (pray for me, seriously), there is a chance that I could bring my grade up to 90 or 90.3%!!!:hpygrp:
Woohoo!! I will keep my fingers crossed!!
I am pretty sure I am done hoping and wishing that I get into the RN program, I am just going to focus on getting into the LPN program and then doing the transition. I think I am stressing way too much over getting A's and it is having an adverse effect! ENGL 111 is kicking my butt and PSYC 101 I still do not have the final grade for but I am anticipating a B. If I couldn't successfully get through these then I know APHY 101 & 102 will be too difficult.
Aww don't submit to defeat yet! You can do it! Are you still taking 111 as a 16 week course? I did Psych over the summer and was doing poorly...but in the end we had an extra credit paper we could do and I ended up pushing myself over the A/B line and got an A in the class thank goodness!
So...more rumors swirling around Ivy Tech's nursing program! I heard 2 yesterday and 1 today!
1. Word is, starting next semester (although one person said it started this semester with 101) you will not be allowed to retake 101 or 102 if you received a B or higher the first time around. I checked with the nursing office, the girl confirmed it but then when I talked to registration they said they hadn't heard anything about it. Supposedly its two fold. They want to allow those who haven't even taken the course yet to have a spot in the class and also it sounds like they want to lessen the competition. That way, it would be feasible to get in the program with 3 As and 1 B. Who knows.
2. That they are going to stop allowing applications for those waiting to finish up pre reqs in the Spring. Then again, I am pretty sure we hear this every single year. Talked to the nursing office and she said it wasn't true.
3. This is my FAVORITE. Apparently the nursing department said they are planning on opening up another nursing section that way they can admit more students. I TRULY hope this is the case! That would probably lessen competition too if they were admitting 120 students as opposed to only 60.
Well took my anatomy quiz Tuesday and got a 9/10! I am going to open lab tomorrow and my lab teacher is then holding a test review session right after that. So I figure I will probably have close to 35 hours of studying in by the time the exam rolls around on Tuesday! That even includes me doing our zombie walk Saturday night! lol
KGLE- Yes I am still doing the 16 week Engl 111 class...I tried to calculate what I would need in order to get an A and I am not sure if it is going to happen. But I just got GREAT news from my Psych teacher...she is going to give me an A because I ended up being within 15 points from it! I am sooo happy about this!
I hope they really do open up more spots!!
Great job on the anat. quiz! I know you are happy about it!
Anomaly, I think I remember having that question as well. . . and not knowing the answer. Yes that is the thing about online classes esp. in the sciences. You have to read the entire chapter and know it well because the test will pick out one little phrase from somewhere and ask you about it. Heck I remember on my 101 midterm there was some obscure question about the rubrosprinal tract. ????? Heck I am in 201 now (in person class) and we just did the nervous system and major spinal tracts and didn't even have to know that level of detail.
This thread moves so fast! I'm used to the IUPUI thread that doesn't move for days. Haha.
I actually was reviewing my midterm for APHY 102 today and found the question about PMCO in one of the practice quizzes on course compass.
Emmi and Kara--here is the info about skipping fundamentals lab if you have a CNA license. I found it within a "Overview and Application Process Booklet" for region 08 that I accessed from the main Ivy Tech Academics page, you click on nursing and it takes you to a page with all the campuses, click on Central Indiana and it has a link to that booklet document.
"CNA advanced placement for NRSG 101
(1) Applicant must hold a current certification. A copy must be provided to the nursing program with application submission.
(2) Applicant must also submit documentation of CNA employment within the last two years with the application to the program. Documentation must be on the employing agency’s letterhead. "
So there ya go.
Kara, that's exciting that you are applying to IU Kokomo! Are you still going to apply to Ivy Tech as well?
Thanks for the info! Yep I am still applying to Ivy Tech, but keeping IU as a backup just in case. First choice is ASN, but if need be I will do BSN. I would have to take anatomy all over again there (or any school I go to) so that would set me back, but we will see what happens with 102!
May 9th or March 9th? I am pretty sure mine starts March 15th :)It said on that info I posted that we are responsible for a uniform. I am assuming (hopefully) that they send us the info that we need! I may talk to the nursing chair tomorrow while I am at school for open lab and see what info she can give me. Also...my friend Sarah who is taking it with me said there was an info sheet so I will grab one of those :)
Hey KGLE!
I am not sure if you ever got to speak with the program chair or not but I sent an email to her and she said the physical must be completed prior to the 1st day of class and that it will take 2-3 weeks (I believe because of the TB tests since we need 2 of them). They will also need our immunization record on the physical. As far as the uniforms go, we will be wearing scrubs with all white shoes, but not until clinicals start-which is 3 weeks after class begins.
I actually had a doctor's appointment today and mysteriously I have no shot records...not even in the state's registry! Unfortunately I can't get immunizations right now since I am pregnant so I will be rushing in December to get it all done by January 12th!!
Oh, man! Is anyone else having problems deciding what they want to take in the spring? LOL, I have so many classes that I want to take, some which aren't offered in the summer session, so I'm having to pick and choose! I thought that I'd decided on what to take, but I changed my mind today. I know that Aphy102, Chem101, and Engl211 are definites (Tech Writing is only an 8 week class, so thats awesome) and I think that I'm going to keep Pharmacology and Dosage Calc, but I'm not sure. It just seems like so much! Also, I don't know if it would be pointless to take the Pharmacology class when I would take it for nursing or if that would mean I didn't have to take it or what. Ugh...too many classes to choose from and I want to take them all!
Whoo Tara! lol I don't want your schedule! I have mine firmed up but that is because I decided to do this 5 credit CNA prep. If not I'd still be debating on which courses to take so I feel for you!
I'm not sure if you take Pharm now that it would count when you are in the program. I would hope so but I'd check first!
