Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....
Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?
I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.
And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!
Haha I don't even know what the heck PMCO is and this is my second time taking 102!
Hey Emmi, when does your CNA class end? Would you want to sell me your books or at least let me borrow? I'm trying to scrimp and save wherever I can! How lame is this? I saw that we have to wear a uniform and I am actually giddy about that. Closer to being in nursing school! lol
Kara, well I'm not sure about skipping Fundamentals if you have a CNA license, but I'm pretty sure I heard that or read that somewhere but I can't find where right now. You'd have to ask to make sure. I know there is a spot on the application where you check that you are a CNA and it says that you have submit a letter from your employer on official letterhead verifying that you have been employed as a CNA in the past 2 yrs. Since you'd be applying before finishing the CNA class, you'd have to find out if you can submit that later like during the summer if you get a CNA job, then you might be able to skip those classes.
I talked to a friend of mine who is an RN with Community and she said the hours are way more flexible and better and the pay is better at a LTC facility as opposed to a hospital. I plan on doing the CNA thing for however long but eventually getting on at a hospital for the student nurse position. I want to solidify my chances of being hired on asap after graduation! I looked up info about the CNA class and I guess they require specific immunizations prior to the first class so I am happy to get some of the stuff out of the way for nursing school :)Hey Kara...
I was wondering about the immunizations and what all was needed prior to the start of classes too. Where did you find the info? I wonder if they will send out some kind of information to everyone that is registered for the class prior to the start date. I have looked into the student nurse programs at both Clarian and Community hospitals and I am eager to be able to get into one of those. Like you I am hoping to get a position immediately after graduation so hopefully that will up the chances!
Here you go :) I was googling what a QMA was and Ivy Tech was one of the results. I don't know how to find the info on their website!

CNA Preparation
CNA Preparation (HHS 107) is a five (5) credit course. Students attend class or clinical at a LTC Facility for 8 hours two days each week for 8 weeks. The state rules require 105 hours of both class and clinical time. If you miss one class or clinical day, you will be dropped from the class. At the completion of the 8 week course students will take the state approved final examination with a state testing agency. The Indiana State Department of Health regulates HHS 107. Specific attendance is required.
Once the course begins, no others can start if they are not physically present for the initial hours of the course.
Again, if a registered student is not present and a non-registered student is present; we may drop the registered student and register the new student. If a student enrolled for the course but has not paid tuition, the student will be dropped from the course. Qualified students must be able to read and write English and calculate simple math problems.
Also, be in physical condition to do the work required of a nursing assistant. Students must furnish a uniform. An Ivy Tech Community College School of Health Sciences Health Statement with 2-step TB Test and results must be completed prior to beginning of class.
On the first link, there is a link to the physical form that shows the immunization requirements.

My class ends May 9th so it will be in time for your class start date and yeah you can definitely borrow my books. I never write in them or anything either.
WooHoo!!! We get to wear uniforms...lol now I am definitely excited :) Again where did you find all this info?! I have looked all over the Ivy Tech site and couldn't find any specific info.
May 9th or March 9th? I am pretty sure mine starts March 15th :)
It said on that info I posted that we are responsible for a uniform. I am assuming (hopefully) that they send us the info that we need! I may talk to the nursing chair tomorrow while I am at school for open lab and see what info she can give me. Also...my friend Sarah who is taking it with me said there was an info sheet so I will grab one of those :)
Thanks for the links! I am getting really excited now...even though it is just the CNA certification.
Haha I know! I keep telling myself...being a CNA is NOT glamorous by any means! But I am excited to start learning and get on the ball for all of this. It will be cool to start working in a field that I want to work in!
Hey, on a good note...My teacher gave partial credit for the matching questions in the midterm, so I got 7 more points AND I found a discrepancy in one of the lab quizzes and she awarded me those points! Woohoo! She's also going to give partial credit on exam 1 for the matching questions (I'm not sure when) so that means a couple more points, yay! IF I can manage to be superwoman and make a 100% on all the other quizzes, along with the midterm (pray for me, seriously), there is a chance that I could bring my grade up to 90 or 90.3%!!!
