Well hello there fellas.
Long time no see.
After the whole fiasco last spring, I took the summer to try to get my head on straight. It's close, but hey, I'm not sure it was on correctly to begin with.
So, once the school let me know for sure that they were not going to readmit me for this Fall, I decided to take the NCLEX-PN. I studied every day, 100-200 questions per day, for about 3 weeks. I passed it in the minimum of 85 questons, and my license arrived in the mail yesterday.
I'm working on my resume. I think I have it done, I'll tweak it some more and go looking for a job this week. My hope is to find employment as an LPN, and be readmitted to finish up my degree in the Spring. The school has told me that my status is "readmit when a seat becomes available". There were two available for the fall, but they didn't let anyone re-take the class. We shall see. At least for now, I can get out there and get some experience so that when I do go back to school, I will have my chops in clinicals and finish what I started three years ago.
A bit of karma: my state has just decided that beginning in June 2007, 3 semesters of an RN program will no longer qualify a student like myself as an LPN. I am thankful that they did not do that last year, that's for sure. I wonder now if the school will think twice about giving a student the boot knowing that there's no path to nursing for them anymore.
Yes, I should have been an RN by now, but I have learned a great deal about myself over these last several months, and I am glad that my education did amount to something, because I am now, officially, a nurse.

Congrats.
It might not be the path you started on, but any path that gets you to the same destination is a valid path.
In the meantime, trials sharpen us. So, even though the path you couldn't take was the quicker route, there are some advantages in taking other routes. There are roses (and thorns) there also.
I know this was hard on not just you, but your family. Tell your wife the gang at allnurses is proud of her, as well, for sticking this out with you.

I remember you!!!! I am so happy you are doing well!
I did not think that they would re-admit you... I figured if they were considering re-admitting you then they did not need to let you go in the first place. By telling you to take the summer they were trying to let you calm down emotionally and create some distance between you and them formally. :trout:
Yes, you are!:w00t:
I always call LPNs I know nurses! Congrats!!! :balloons:

Congrats on the LPN! It may not be quite as liberating as seeing your name on a RN license, but it comes close. Welcome to the career of nursing practice! Keep the faith.

This is just a little nursing humor...LPN stands for lets play nurse. This is what a paramedic student told me so dont blame me!

LPN= Let's Pretend Nurse, lol
I know a couple LPN's that run circles around some of the RN's in the small facility I work.
