Hello all prospective nurses,
If anyone has questions about IUON or living on the island, send me a message and I could help you with life on the island, the good restaurants, transportation and the course work. I graduated from IUON and attended an affiliated school in Kentucky. I took my boards in September and I currently work in the ICU in a new grad program. Just leave me a message if you guys have any questions.
Ok so I was looking to apply for September 2009 at IUON, but i started looking into the university of virgin islands im confused about which one is better? I know at uvi its 4 years and where at iuon its just a year for the bsn program... is anyone else looking to go in september 2009 ??
USVI has been around, Iuon is the newer Kid on the block..So the teething pains and hurdles are still being ironed out.
The decision is urs Futurenurse102. Am a returning Bsn 6th Semester Student.
I will be in the May semester, doing the caribbean track exam. I have 3 semesters left to graduate with the Bsn.
It may be alot more cheaper going to the USVI, plus its U.S accredited directly, and its in a U.S territory.
Don't committ yet to any school until you do ur investigations. Feel free to listen to the critics from both sides of both colleges/university.
Don't be to hesty in making that life changing decison.
Any futher Ques direct them to me.
Good luck!
Does anyone know about the accreditation of IUON. I know that the US affiliated schools are accredited and i know that the IUON is accredited by the carribean, but is that going to become a problem when trying to get a job in the states with not getting training in a US accredited school??
Check out the school's website about its accredication status. All i know is iuon is accredited and certified to offer both the ADN & BSN programs in the caribbean. I would not think that anyone would have any problem if one is transfering to the U.S through one of its Affiliated Colleges/Universities.
All of Iuon's graduates who has transfered to its affiliates are working R.N's. There you go, that shouldn't be a problem.
Again even to those students who are doing the Caribbean Track Exams they are also working either here in there caribbean or in Canada
GooD luck!

Caribbean Track Exams predominately pertain those who are Residents of Commonwealth Countries, Bahamas, Canada, Jamaica, St Kitts, England etc etc. The Caribbean Track Exam gives the Commonwealth resident an opportunity to work in another Commonwealth Country.
The Education that one gets in the Island Countries are very different and in most, not all regards not up to a education in the USA, hence the fact that you go to Iuon and then transfer to USA, why is that?

well..the option is ones to choose. Iuon gives anyone the choice to either transfer to the U.S and do the NCLEX or the Caribbean Regional Exams.
If one does not meet the Transfer GPA requirement then One can do the Caribbean Track then Do the CGFNS exams then the NCLEX.
Either way, One get to choose from either Licensing Exams. You do not have to be a Caribbean/Commonwealth national/resident to take that exam and work in any of the commonwealth territories.
Like many other critics - there are the pro and cons to coming to an overseas nursing school. To all those who have already been accepted into a nursing program back in the states - please do take it. Other than that, I advise coming into a school such as IUON (International University of Nursing). I am currently a 4/5 semester student at IUON and I love it here, not just because of the sun, surf, beach bars, and a change of lifestyle - but the main focus is to be a nurse. I'm not sure how other states are doing their acceptance for new students who apply to nursing schools, but my state has a minimum of 1 1/2 yr waiting list + 2 rounds or pre-acceptance and final acceptance. In my mind this was such a hassle and I was denied after the final acceptance and waiting a yr was shot down the drain. Please do look into the website IUON.org - the best part about this Carribean school , there is no waiting list which is the sweet chase of getting your ADN or BSN which I advise!!!. Any students who can not get accepted into a US nursing school and want to come to my school at IUON - feel free to ask any questions and I will try to gather as much information as I can for you. If you do speak to a representative from this school and do consider this as your option, I like to ask if I may be used as your referral. From there I will answer any questions once you have decided to come here for school - from living arrangements, tourist spots, grocery stores including the local trader markets, what to bring with you, materials to bring or what to expect while you are down here.
Please ask all the important questions in regards with US partner schools and accrediation to the representative from IUON to ensure backup on anything they tell you. =) Good luck to all future students.
hello purex1301, I am highly considering attending IOUN. I would love to have some questions answered at your availability of course. I am a mother of two and is married. My husband told me today that he would move there with me. I am very excited to hear that. I am a second degree older student I look forward to the lifestyle change. getting in a school here in the states is crazy!!!! for a profession that has a shortage they really make it hard to get in this is why my family and I are making this move.
Have you seen families move out there and do the nursing program?
I apologize for the late response about this. Would you like me to still answer your question or have you already enrolled into IUON for September?? I advise you to speak to students who are currently enrolled in IUON before making that step as well as speaking to the representatives from IUON. Just for some piece of advise, since you mention you already have a degree - (IUON may or may not tell you, is that credits or classes can not more than 7 yrs old). If you like me to email, please leave your email address and I will be sure to respond quick. I am on my last final as of today and I will be quick with my responses.
Hi
I am a Kittitian and I don't know if you are still on the island. I've been looking at the se threads about IUON and i'd love to speak with a student at the school about what the curriculum is like and get a feel about what their experience was like. I'm new on this thing and i don't know how to send a private message. So if you're willing to talk to me, then let me know and i'll tell you my email. Thanks.
