Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello all prospective nurses,

If anyone has questions about IUON or living on the island, send me a message and I could help you with life on the island, the good restaurants, transportation and the course work. I graduated from IUON and attended an affiliated school in Kentucky. I took my boards in September and I currently work in the ICU in a new grad program. Just leave me a message if you guys have any questions.

It's hard for me to waste my breath on trying to explain something I can't explain.

IUON is corrupt. If IUON is your last choice still don't go. The rpice is huge, the education is horrible- try to learn chemisty from someone who barely speaks English. I could go on and on and on and on about all the little things but I only have one thing to say DON'T GO.

I have to admitt IUON's webpage is looking good these days...hahaha that too is a scam.

ok so idk when gunit nurse grad from iuon but i heard llots of bad things about the school before i came here and about prev semester but they must have gotten way better sence ive been here .... i attend there now and i think it is a great school. the island is a compeletly different world but it is an awesome once in a lifetime experience and sure the chem/micro teacher can barly speak english and is a HORRIBLE teacer but that is one class and you get that from any school you go to plus those our just pre nursing classes and most people finish them in the states and transfer to iuon with them(which i recomend) but when you get to the act nurses classes they have higly qualitfied teachers thus why all the students who recently transfered to prudue are doing great... i had a hard time deciding to go here and i contacted many people and i think it was a good decision plus i can get my nursing degree asap... if any one has any questions please feel free to contact me!!

Thanks Alaska for the info. How is leaving expense and transportation to school?

2.5 is a bit tough. It depends on previous classes you have taken, this determines your strength and weakness. Most nursing schools do look at your science classes - if you have taken A&P 1/2 and Microbiology. Many if not all schools prefer a B and better for these classes and if you have a C in one of them but excel in others then you have a good chance. I receive a C in A&P 1 but did a B in A&P 2 - so you never know. Try your luck !!

There are several listings of houses or housing that the school does not know. Other than that.......your best bet to live close to school is Camps (Kamps) something along that spelling and Mattingly Heights. These 2 areas are within walking distance from school. LimeKill (forgive my spelling) is similar to living in a single bedroom dorm and then there are other areas like Bird Rock or Frigete Bay which are pretty far out and requires a means of transportation. FYI - cars here are nothing like the US, so you may have to spend a solid 6k for a decent car otherwise you may end up pushing your car. Expenses wise....each semester I recommend about 6-8k.....depending how much you spend on groceries, the beach bars, utilities, spending money, etc etc.

all the best...am a 6th semeter bsn student..U'll enjoy it..Lots of hard work..be prepared

Hello!! I definately have some questions about IUON that i need some answers too.

1. How does the process work for the clinicals when you come back to the states? Do you have to apply for the school (lets say colorado) or are you already accepted and ready to start?

2. Was crime a big issue?

3. Do you know why it is easier to get into IUON than any other nursing program?

4. What is the weather like?

5. How can you get around? Is there a way to get your own car or is taking the bus much easier?

6. Was it relatively expensive? (Im going for the BSN)

7. What are the class sizes like? Small/Big, Lectures/hands on, etc.

If there is anything else you would be willing to share with me that would be great!! thank you so much for offering information on your experience. it is really a stress reliever to have an insiders view on things...

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Hey Amber;

Am a sxith semester student..well am enterin the 6th semester this May...2 Ans ur Ques..I will try 2 do as so as best as I can.

Well..Clinicals and placement depends on One's GPA. Once you have statisfied the transeferin GPA requirement gettin into any partner school is garanteed,so i do not have to apply like a New student..Applications will be made via Iuon because you will be a transfering partner School Student.

2. Crime is not a big issue on the island, but good scense should prevail. You wouldn't leave yourself vulnerable to become a target..would you?? Same as it wud be elsewhere...One need to use their common sense.

3. It is easier because its a new University, and there isn't a wait list.

4. As being in the caribbean, it warm, sumtimes hot, but theres pently places to go relax at the beach.

5. GEtting around may not be as difficult. Gettin ur own car may create more of an expense that one would think. BAre in mind tht tuition and the other exnpenses doesnt come cheap..Save more spend less...

6. Well Doin the BSN is more practical.

7. The class size varies. It could be small or medium in size...But u get eazi acess to faculty..

Am from the Caribbean, Jamaica to be xact, and if u still have any Quez or anything isn't clear feel free to link me

you are going to IUON now? I have heard both good and bad things...with my GPA, it will take me forever to get into a program in the states. its not bad, but it would take forever. i am taking most of my gen eds and pre reqs here in the states.

How do you get accepted into the states for clinicals?? Is it an automatic thing?

With Every College/University theres alwyz good n bad to say..No one can escape tht..U jus have to make the best of it.

Yes am I...

Am Doin the BSN, but staying here to Do the caribbean Regional Licensing Boards..Am slated for tht exam April 1-2 2010.Similar to the NCLEX but with this License, One can practice in Any Bristish Commonwealth Country. Countries includes Canada to Austrialia.

Once as i'v said u meet the U.S college Transfer Requirement you are automatically accepteD. One's GPA determines that.

Listen am here..and am making good use of my time here..You make it what you want it to be.

Nurisng school is very hard to get into..am jus happy that i got the opportunity too thru Iuon.
