Nurses Career Support

Hello all prospective nurses,

If anyone has questions about IUON or living on the island, send me a message and I could help you with life on the island, the good restaurants, transportation and the course work. I graduated from IUON and attended an affiliated school in Kentucky. I took my boards in September and I currently work in the ICU in a new grad program. Just leave me a message if you guys have any questions.

Hi,

still on the island? have some housing questions, like where is the best place to stay? during the school year thank you

I just heard about it this week actually...did you get any info on the school?

just got in monday leaving for island mid april

Sammie - did you have to take a test to get into the program? how hard is it? I have a BS in Business, have done most of my pre-reqs and I want to get into a school asap. Have you heard anything about the Antigua school?

Hi,

no test, just a 2.5 gpa and most of the pre req and good moral values. Call them it is worth the call, I have looked at lots of schools but not the one in Antigua. One of the other ones that I looked at and got in was remington in Florida but they are very new and have lots of bug to work out. Being on the west coast there are lots of options but I need to finish asap. Your degree will knock off classes, I also have a non medical degree.

Thank you so much for the advice! I really appreciate it...I took alot of pre-reqs b/w 2004-2006, finished my BS in 2002 and tried to get into a BSN or Accelerated BSN in 2006 and had no luck. I gave up and got a new job. Unfortunately, I lost my job in Dec 2009 and now I am really thinking of going back to school to finish my nursing so I can get my RN. I dont want to do the BSN now cause it would take me 3 yrs and I would be 36 by the time I am done and I would have more debt. I thought Antigua would be good because I can start in Sept, finish my clinical part, get my ASN and study for my NCLEX. Once I have that, I would work and then finish BSN online which would take up to a year. The Antigua would cost me about 35k but my main concern is passing the NCLEX and how well they prepare you. I am going to check out the school you are starting in May...is it a good program? and have you seen a lot of people pass the NCLEX when they graduate from there? and are you working on your ASN or BSN? Thank you so much for the info..really appreciate it!! God bless our country!

Sammie - Also it says on their site that we have to take the TEAS....did you have to take that? people with a degree already, do we have to take this test? Also, how are you funding your school? private loans from the states?

Purdue,

The teas is not a item u have to have before enrollment I have taken it and have to take again at a later time. The teas results were not an issue, 65 or higher is all they ask for. School funding there is lots of loans and some free dollars, take the time or higher a service to look for u. I have also heard talk about some places that will pay for you to go to school but u work for them for x number of years after. I am going the loan route for and also looking for the few hundred dollars scholarships that are around. i.e. moose, eagles, elks clubs like that, every bits helps

Thanks for the info...I am going to call them up tomorrow. Maybe even visit them since they are right here in NYC. Good luck and please do keep in touch. I am assuming you are taking the ASN route and you will finish your BSN once you are back in the states. Did you ever check out of any of these schools?

I'm also looking into IUON the biggest concern for me is tuition. Could someone tell me how much tuition is costing for the BSN?

Thanks

I want information on costs of living and such also. How much money did you spend living there. I also read A LOT of negative comments about this university and would like to talk to someone who knows how it really is. Please email me back as soon as you can (sorry im new to this site and i have no idea how it works). I was super excited to attend this school and now Im doubting it.... :( thanks for you time!!!!

I attended IUON and transfered to one of their BSN partner schools in the states and graduated in December 2009. While the school is more expensive than many in the states (comparable to the cost of a private school), it is an accelerated program and provides you with a lot of experiences you wont have anywhere else. I had the best time of my life going to school there! The bonds you make with the other students there are incredible... along with the islanders. While there were some headaches associated with going to an International school, I think it is well worth it if you are looking for a great adventure! A bunch of us are already trying to plan a reunion trip back the St. Kitts!
