IUON is one of the worst schools I have ever applied to and I really regret the decision of spending my years down here. The time I have been down here - this institution has lost 1-2 teachers every semester (mental health, foundation of nursing, nutrition to name a FEW), lost two deans, lost its Citibank LOANS (seriously), and drum roll pleaseeeee ::::: lost a few US partner schools from PR, KY, Purdue to name a few. Yes, if you love the idea of fluttering your money into a nonworking system by all means aim high. As someone has mention about students being paid to write great things about this school is unheard of. However current students and recent grads have posted negatives or vented out about their transcripts (I've been waiting a yr for my transcript and still haven't received it) have been erased by the admin. Honestly it is your decision, that gut feeling, but stride with persistence and luck. Up to date news : even if the school gives you their own personal loan, it isn't enough to cover both tuition and living expenses.

Hi Nooksta, just like yourself I am an American citizen from NY. I have taken all the prior pre-req's (A&P 1/2 , Chem , Micro and other basic classes that are needed for nurse - give or take) I would like to know what school you have attended in the Cavite area? I'm slowly reading through all these forums and hoping to attend a nursin school in the Philippines, the current nursing school is a fail and my friends are applyin to other schools (LOL). I was wondering if you can help ease the transition of both application, citizenship in the Philippines, and other requirements you did to enroll in your institution. Thanks in advance =)

The last person who made a comment about accreditation is correct (scuttles). IUON does have partner schools in the US - each semester IUON is in the process or does sign up a new partner school for us. Us as the students are allowed to transfer either in the last two or three semesters, depending on your choice of the partner school as well as speaking to the transfer representative. Hope this helps out, if any other questions feel free to ask away. As you have mention, do you daily investigation =)

nsilgen and kellyannie - sorry if I goofed on any of those 2 names. If you have not received any information about what to bring or what to expect, feel free to leave your email address. I may be able to answer any questions if you have in regards with living, the lifestyle, food, etc etc etc - but do find housing ASAP due to the large amounts of students coming in Sept 2009 (as of what I've been told 30 students have booked their flights and min of 10-40 more are coming in). I advise photocopy all your information like immunization, results from your HIV 1/2 - xray.

I apologize for the late response about this. Would you like me to still answer your question or have you already enrolled into IUON for September?? I advise you to speak to students who are currently enrolled in IUON before making that step as well as speaking to the representatives from IUON. Just for some piece of advise, since you mention you already have a degree - (IUON may or may not tell you, is that credits or classes can not more than 7 yrs old). I would not recommend keeping your current phone plan - you may inquire international fees, roaming charges, etc etc ( I don't know much but I wouldn't recommend it ). The school provides you with a free mobile phone, nothing fancy but it's good enough, as well as a calling card only good for about 10 minutes. The school itself has a Vonyage phone (I'm sure you have heard of it over those paid ads). The Vonyage phone allows you to make calls from here to back home, any time you want during the school hours which is a nice little bonus for us. There is also a program called Skype which you pay a fee monthly for roughly $12 bucks using your laptop, mic and/or webcam. there is also another great tool which is called the MagicJack - you buy this adapter from Radioshack or online and the yearly fee which isn't too bad (less than 75 bucks, but I can be wrong) and then a regular phone you want to hook the (MagicJack to any computer/laptop). The phone lines are not provided by the landlords here in St Kitts, some places do include free internet if you are lucky. Most of these apartments are furnished, some may have bare essentials, some have moderate and others are fully hooked up. My current place is not spacious but it's close to school, fully furnished, and a bonus. If your apartment does not have internet you can purchase internet and the Vonyage phone line - I'm not too sure how much it is, this you will have to look into to (google Lime Wireless, St Kitts or Cable Wireless). There is only 2 mobile phone companies Cable Wireless and Digicell (this company is a bit pricey). I recommend getting phone cards just in case, but there is always the Vonyage phone you can use in school, those 2 useful tools (MagicJack and Skype) , and then having Vonyage setup in your apartment. Most or majority of students use the Vonyage phone here and/or skype or MagicJack - this is much cheaper than purchasing Vonyage for your apartment. If you happen to have AIM, facebook - do drop your screen name or email - so I can answer your questions if you have anymore. When you go for your interview, would you mind using me as your referral =). Oh yes, how does your GPA look??? - If it it's a 3.0 + the school provides you from $500-$2000 scholarship money for each semester, if you maintain the grade of course.

Like many other critics - there are the pro and cons to coming to an overseas nursing school. To all those who have already been accepted into a nursing program back in the states - please do take it. Other than that, I advise coming into a school such as IUON (International University of Nursing). I am currently a 4/5 semester student at IUON and I love it here, not just because of the sun, surf, beach bars, and a change of lifestyle - but the main focus is to be a nurse. I'm not sure how other states are doing their acceptance for new students who apply to nursing schools, but my state has a minimum of 1 1/2 yr waiting list + 2 rounds or pre-acceptance and final acceptance. In my mind this was such a hassle and I was denied after the final acceptance and waiting a yr was shot down the drain. Please do look into the website IUON.org - the best part about this Carribean school , there is no waiting list which is the sweet chase of getting your ADN or BSN which I advise!!!. Any students who can not get accepted into a US nursing school and want to come to my school at IUON - feel free to ask any questions and I will try to gather as much information as I can for you. If you do speak to a representative from this school and do consider this as your option, I like to ask if I may be used as your referral. From there I will answer any questions once you have decided to come here for school - from living arrangements, tourist spots, grocery stores including the local trader markets, what to bring with you, materials to bring or what to expect while you are down here. Please ask all the important questions in regards with US partner schools and accrediation to the representative from IUON to ensure backup on anything they tell you. =) Good luck to all future students.

They did not review your transcript..uh oh. Just to be advise, please let them do your entire paper processing, your health forms and what not. Once you get down here, there is a chance almost like every other school they will lose paper work, health forms, and give a lame excuse about such classes can not be transfered over. Just for your info, if you have taken a class that is part of the BSN track (which I am in as well) and it's past 5 yrs. The school will not accept it, I almost got screwed because I graduated with a B.S. in Health Care management. Camps is a good area to live in or decent area, good luck in finding a good apartment...it's about timing and luck. Did the person who was interviewing you ask who recommended you to this school?? Mind if I ask how did you know about this school ??

hmmm I will be here until April....I could of been done in December but the work load is quite heavy. For a single bedroom it varies - there are unlisted apartments told by mouth and the school does not have it listed. As far as I know a single can range from 350 ( have to be super lucky to as much as 650 ). Having a roomie is a hit or miss and 2 bedrooms average the same price range. Not having a car can lead to a boring life unless you make really good friends with those who have a means of transportation - I do not own a car and I personally can not sit home all night. There is always the beach bars which is a great weekend getaway from school work and rewarding yourself but you will need a car to get there unless you are willing to shell out money for a taxi.

nope..actually I'm a 4/5th semester student ( but been here on the island for 2 semesters already). I'm just giving any information students may need to know when they arrive here or if I can try to recruit other students here =P ( I apologize if that sounds a bit deceiving). Is there anything you like to ask or know about St Kitts?? Just to advise you, food here is somewhat expensive - depending on what you are looking for, so pack any goods you think you may not find here or think it is overpriced. Be sure to find housing in areas like Mattingly or Camps (within walking distance from school), Bird Rock you will need a car.

Hey Baca...Are you coming into IUON in the month of Sept 2009?? Mind if I ask what state you are coming from??

There are several listings of houses or housing that the school does not know. Other than that.......your best bet to live close to school is Camps (Kamps) something along that spelling and Mattingly Heights. These 2 areas are within walking distance from school. LimeKill (forgive my spelling) is similar to living in a single bedroom dorm and then there are other areas like Bird Rock or Frigete Bay which are pretty far out and requires a means of transportation. FYI - cars here are nothing like the US, so you may have to spend a solid 6k for a decent car otherwise you may end up pushing your car. Expenses wise....each semester I recommend about 6-8k.....depending how much you spend on groceries, the beach bars, utilities, spending money, etc etc.

2.5 is a bit tough. It depends on previous classes you have taken, this determines your strength and weakness. Most nursing schools do look at your science classes - if you have taken A&P 1/2 and Microbiology. Many if not all schools prefer a B and better for these classes and if you have a C in one of them but excel in others then you have a good chance. I receive a C in A&P 1 but did a B in A&P 2 - so you never know. Try your luck !!

I have read numerous replies or postings about IUON, in some truth I can agree and disagree to their statements. The school is not expensive but in the long run with plane fairs, school supplies, fees, groceries and everything else it may add up to 100K in debt ( who knows ). On the lighter note, which ever state you are in (after the long application to work in your state ) the hospital you wish to work at may pay your debt if you sign a contract with that hospital and work XX amount of years. This is from word of mouth from several nurses as well as googling around forums - please check it up yourself, do not take my word for it. The way I see this, I rather be in debt and pay if off slowly once I accomplish my short term goal ( being a RN holding a Bachelor's Degree ), rather than working a starting salary of 35-42k or being a fry cook. Forget that junk, I'm optimistic so I understand the school is fairly new and still in the process - deal with it. It's a chance to take - if you can not get into schools in your state or within the US, IUON may be your only hope. I will be attending in January 2009, if you are going - hope to get to know you soon or on the island. FOCUS on schooling not baking in the sun you tards ! As someone have mention, this is a professional career and if you screw up, no one to blame but yourself - in the mean time I will party hard on the island when time does permit, otherwise I will sleep in the library with textbook marks across my face =). FYI - if anyone does live in NY, one school I was planning to apply ( NEW YORK UNIVERSITY ) a semester is about 25K or ( LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY ) is a solid 32K roughly estimating on tutition alone. So yeah.....anyone want to argue on that??
