Nurses Career Support

Hello all prospective nurses,

If anyone has questions about IUON or living on the island, send me a message and I could help you with life on the island, the good restaurants, transportation and the course work. I graduated from IUON and attended an affiliated school in Kentucky. I took my boards in September and I currently work in the ICU in a new grad program. Just leave me a message if you guys have any questions.

Anyone has attended iuon?

Would love to hear more about experiences at IUON such as transferring to US affiliates.

I thought i wanted to attend IUON in the fall but after reading what everyone has said about it i'm really torn. It is an expensive school, so will it be worth it? Is the degree even worth that amount of money? It seems like getting licensed in the states is going to be really hard....? And some graduates have said it was totally worth it whereas others have said it was a waste of time and money...i'm so confused, please help.

When I do anything I always research things. Sometimes I don't know why because it can be downright irritating. Just keep in mind that that everyone is sooooo different. I think it is all about the effort people put into things and their attitude. I'm the kind of person that if everyone writes something bad then I want to go so I can find the one positive thing to write about. It seems like everytime someone writes something bad about IUON they dissappear from the thread. Stick around so we can find out why it is so bad. What about the experience itself. Living in another country on an island!!! Don't have to twist my arm. That in itself can only make you grow as a person, especially if you are young. It may be the worst experience ever but, at least you can tell the story yourself instead someone else making the decision for you. Keep me posted on your thoughts and decisions. :wink2:

I decided to apply and keep researching while i wait to hear back. I'm also looking in to other private schools in cali but their programs aren't as accelerated as iuon. One thing i'm really worried about is finding employment in my home state after i become licensed in another state; i've heard that i'd have to take another test to qualify for licensure here. Finding out all of this informatin is quite a process! I really appreciate everyone on here for helping!

I know through the nursing board there is a compact that allows you to practice in multiple states. For instance Colorado is part of this compact. If I get licensed in Colorado I am able to practice in 26 out of the 50 states. Not sure about Cali, but maybe your better of getting licensed in a state that is part of the compact. What semester are you looking at going to IUON? I'm looking at May 2009.

I'm looking in to attending in fall '09 but i may procrastinate until spring of 2010 because i have so many reservations at this point lol

I just got accepted into IUON for the May '09 semester. I am really excited. Let me know if anyone else is going to apply.

I also applyed to IUON and waiting to hear form them. I only have 2.5 do you think they will take me?

I think so...I only had a 2.6 and the lowest is 2.5 so I don't think that you will have any problem. When did you apply?

I applyed last week. I need more info about the school and area. Please tell me what you know about the school thanks

Well the school is located on the island of St.kitts. Did you apply for the bachelors program or the associates program? Depending on that, you would be on the island for a year or two and study the majority of the classes there. Then you would need to transfer to another school in the U.S to finish up your studies. That's how you are cleared to work in the U.S. There is a number of schools that IUON has contracts with here in the U.S.
