Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I'm struggling to get started on studying for my NCLEX PN. It's been 7 years since I finished school. I am unsure what or where to start. I have no motivation because every time I try to study I feel like I'm just going around in circles. I would like some input on what ya'll did to help you get started studying. Thank you

No snark intended, but are you even eligible to take it after so long?

I have been told that I can. The state requirement in Florida is if you fail 3 times you have to take a State board approved Remedial course.

Why so long? Are you sure it's what you want to do? I find motivation usually works with wanting something...

Yes I want to and need to. I have been a CNA for 12 years. My youngest son and grandfather died while I was in nursing school. I finished and got super depressed. I just found out last summer my education doesnt expire. You only have to take a refresher after the 3rd time I fail. Trust me when I say I want it. Im also having a rough time right now. My husband left me for my BF of 14 years and in order to take care of my kids better I need a better job

I can surely relate to your situation. Its been almost 4 years (in may) since i graduated from nursing school. Took the exam twice already and I failed. Im afraid to take it the third time but however im building up the courage to do some this year. Dont givr up! Dont look at all the years you've lost but look forward to the future. Its NEVER to late! God will see you through. Im sorry for the hardships you've had to endure. Time heals all wounds.

P.S Where in Fl do you reside? Maybe we could study together! :)

I just took my NCLEX on 4/16/14 and got the good pop up and I am just waiting to get my official results. I graduated nursing school 10 years ago. It was my second time taking it, the first time I took it was in 2009 with no studying. I made the commitment to not only take my NCLEX, but pass it 7 months ago. For 10 years I worked in health insurance utilization and have been teaching secondary level science for 5 years. I don't know what you are feeling, but I can relate to not knowing where to start. I began studying the Pearson NCLEX-RN review for about a month and then, by chance, I found out about the Hurst Review. I basically threw all my study materials away and put all my faith into the Hurst review. It was the best thing I have done. I took 0 practice tests, not even a Q review. I put all my faith in the core content knowledge Hurst honed in on. 10 years, keep that in mind and believe in yourself.

My advice would be to start from

The fundamentals. Just a quick review. I'm sure being a cna you already know your vitals but maybe a quick review of the fundamentals is a start. I took the ati program and actually found it very helpful. I think it's about $250 and you get an online tutor to answer your every question and guide you along the way. I know so many people have said bad things about ati but personally it worked for me. I passed my nclex on the minimum questions my first try and it only took me about 30 mins :). Good luck and I'm sorry about your husband leaving you for the bf. ugh no shame.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I say look into the future and forget the past. I used the hurst review after being out of school for many years. I reccomend the online version. I didn't know where to start studying but hurst decided for me. It's the only resource I used and I loved it. I listened to the videos over and over and read the notes. I didn't do many questions. I did one test from hurst and I felt like it didn't help me much so I stopped. I passed the first time.

Good luck to you.

Ok so Hurst it is. Im looking into it now. I have heard a lot about them and ATI as well. I will focus on it and see how that goes.

I have been out for school for 7 years. There are so many review books classes and reviews I'm not sure which to choose from. Which 1 did you use?

I live in Ocala. Where are you from?
