Is Vista College an accredited school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I just have a quick question is Vista College an accredited school? They have a LVN program and I would love to get some information on this .Thank you very much and I highly appreciate you all!!

Have you looked for accreditation information on their website? Have you asked at the school? Is there some reason you're not able to figure this out for yourself?

I truly don't mean to sound nasty, I just never understand why so many people come here and ask questions to which they could easily find the answers themselves. If you go to nursing school, you're going to have spend a lot of time seeking out information on your own -- you might as well start getting good at that now. :) I can see asking here about what the different accreditations that a school has might mean (e.g., whether they are "good" accreditations or not), but, if you are computer-savvy enough to find the school's website, you can find out what accreditations it has. Best wishes (sincerely)!

I taught at the Las Cruces campus last year. It it not accredited by ACEN and the curriculum was scrapped and re-written. There is currently a hold on admitting new students in New Mexico per BON order, no students have been admitted for past 6 months. Vista College is a for profit school, there are no pre-requisites courses, no minimum GPA. Anyone who can qualify for student loan is admitted. Please do a search on these for profit schools (Corrinthian, AnaMarc, Kaplan, Capella, Brown Mackie, Brookline College, Carrington College etc etc etc).

AnaMarc was a local for profit that suddenly closed doors last year due to alleged embezzling. Vista College took in many of the LPN students.

I would suggest waiting the 1.5 years for the community college. Courses at these for profit schools are often NOT transferable to traditional, non profit colleges/univeristies.

Are you aware of the cost?

I truly don't mean to sound nasty, I just never understand why so many people come here and ask questions to which they could easily find the answers themselves. It is not accredited by any Nursing organization, I do think it is confusing to pre-nursing students. If you call they will tell you that they are for example, the Las Cruces campus they will say it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, so it is misleading, IMO.

You have to look at the very bottom left under Why Vista College, in grey letters to see the word Accreditation. This is after you get to the main website, then have to select Nursing/diploma, then scroll all the way to the bottom. So info is there but hidden. Ads for these schools are very slick, with pictures of people in scrubs. Pretty snazzy website.

But OP when schools are accredited by CCNE, they proudly put this on websites. PM me if you have questions. Will be happy to help you sort this out.

To be fair (much as I hate to say anything positive about any of the proprietary schools), unless things have changed dramatically in the last few years, very few LPN/LVN programs have ACEN accreditation. Nursing accreditation is not (again, unless things have changed recently) been as big a deal as it is for RN programs.

elppark, you are correct. Focus is on RN programs.

Don't mean to sound nasty as well ...didn't your mama taught you a lesson..if you don't have anything nice to say mrs or mr know it all then shut it!!Sorry but not sorry

Exactly ..i called them and they said they were but then on the other hand some people said it was not so that's why i am on here asking. I can google **** all day but that doesn't mean everything on google is true....

Students and prospective students should never be afraid to call the state board of registration in nursing to ask a question like this. They are there to protect the public, paid by your taxpayer money, and advised by working nurses in their nurse practice advisory panels.

You are entitled to this information. They're in the phone book or online.

What kind of "question like this" are you expecting the BON to answer? They approve nursing programs to operate in the state. They can identify to a caller whether the school is approved to operate or not, and possibly whether the school has ever been disciplined or at risk of losing its BON approval, and the BONs all maintain records about the first-time NCLEX pass rate of all the nursing programs in the state. They don't maintain any info about what accreditations the schools may or may not have, and they are not likely to be willing to offer any opinions about the quality of a particular program.

Nursing programs are usually unable to become accredited until 3rd or 4th year of operation as outcomes from student achievement needs to be measured including having a 3 year mean at or above the national mean for passing nursing licensure exam NCLEX. 50% faculty must have masters degrees etc.

203 LPN Program standards located: http://www.acenursing.net/manuals/SC2013_PRACTICAL.pdf

While Texas has only 3 ACEN accredited programs, PA has 23 -many long established programs and consumers seeking accredited programs. Big issue with attending non-accredited program is if you choose to advance and apply to RN program, most collegiate nursing programs only give some credit for LPN coursework to graduates from accredited programs.

You can check ACEN site visit section for those programs that have been reviewed in current year or are planning for accretion review in next 6 months.
