Alright I am in a HUGE bind. I owe $1,000 on my credit card... and I only have $200 in my checking. I'm not currently working b/c I'm starting my first semester of clinicals in 2 weeks. I am EXTREMELY nervous partly because I don't know what to expect. Anyways I've pretty much gotten all my supplies and things... hopefully I don't need anything else b/c I won't be able to pay for it. I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about going get a part time job but I don't know how difficult it would be with school and studying. And with Christmas coming up I hate the fact that I can't buy my family gifts. I just don't know what to do. I hope I can find the strength to work and go to school. Any reccommendations would be great. What are you all doing to help pay for things while in school? I REALLY NEED HELP!!! :crying2:

There was a huge forum on this a couple of weeks ago. You should try to find it. I'm going to be working part-time while in school. I know of a lot of people who worked full-time and still did well. It all depends on you and what you're willing to do.

Nursing school is not the end of life, it can be challenging, but it is still possible to live. There are lots of students who work full time and still do well in clinicals. Perhaps you can get a job as a nurses aide, that way you are learning things that will help you in clinicals. Good luck!

like some of us and burn the candle at both ends...

It can be done.

I work full-time and have a 3.7 GPA in my nursing classes. It can be done, but it's not easy. I have no life!! :chuckle

At my school, we are told that if we need to work more than 10 hrs. a week that we need to bump down to the part time nursing program. They really discourage working while in nursing school.

First I would like to congratulate you on having **only** $1000 credit card debt--my hubby and I would be celebrating that low a balance! :rotfl:

Anyway, yes it is possible to work during school. I would suggest something on the brainless side so that you don't have to think too much.

Being a nurses aid or tech is great for students, but I am going thru the training for that now and there is NO WAY i could learn both the job and lessons at school. I am grateful beyond words this job found me between semesters. So be careful what you start because you will need to be able to learn/perform both job and school. Maybe you can find something that comes easy to you, so you can pick it up quickly and not spend the brain-power on work, saving it for school.

Can you work part time for the school, and receive pay? My school offers student jobs. That way you could maybe pick up hours between classes if you have a good break, or before or after classes. Cuts down on the travel time and gas expense.

Its early to think of Christmas; I don't start shopping til October but layaway is a great thing.

Yes, it is possible.

very much possible. it all depends on you, whether you are comitted enough to make it or not. at my school, i would have to say that at least 80% work and go to school and they are fine. then there are some those who don't work, don't need to pay bills and fail. best wishes to you. :)

During nursing school I worked 3 part time jobs and carried about 12-15 credit hours, that was 13 years ago, now i am in bsn completion program work fulltime and taking 13 credit hours it is done, maybe not entirely easy, some things you have to let go, like cleaning your house, etc :0

And then there's the REAL world.

I also workeds during nursing school. I have lect all day Mon so that day was to myself and studying.....Tues I had no school and I worked 4-8 at a bank .......Wed and Thurs are clinical and thats a job in itself so i didnt work those days.....Fri I had off so i worked 3-8 at the bank.....I also worked some saturdays andtook sundays off to prepare for Mondays lecture......it can be done.....my advice to you is to try and find a job that allows you to study. I got a job at bank and it was great becuase i worked drive-thru so in between customers i studied so working was a bonus. because i got school work done too
