So, we have a new executive director. We had staff meetings today so everyone could meet him and so we could ask the staff what they need help with. We have an ambulation program and thought they would need/like help walking the residents to and from lunch. Or help passing the trays or SOMETHING. Just trying to find a way to help out during the crunch at meal times. No one said too much of anything while we were there. Later in the day I heard that many of them were upset..."management must not think we're doing a good job if they want to come and help." I can't believe it. We offer to help and get attitude? What is wrong with these people?

PS I'm on the floor all the time answering lights and helping everyone out so I really don't get it.

Sounds like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Just keep trying.

CCM, you know people are never happy or satisfied. If you try to help them, they think you think they cant do their job. if you dont help, then you dont care.

it would be less painful to go beat your head on the brick outside.

Reminds me of a Ray Stevens song.

A cookie for the guesser of said song ;)

Well....if Im understanding this right then this is the gist of it right......big wigs offer to help or ask for suggestions on how to help in a bind..floor people get upset thinking they dont care ....ok....if this is the case then look at it from the other side...ok...you say you are always out on the floor answering lights etc...but are the only one doing that from up above? How many others from the offices or whatever are doing that? Ill give you an example here...at my facility IF any of the management happen to answer a light which is beyond rare..we really only see that when state is in the house.....they usually just come get a nurse or a cna....that pt may have only wanted a refill on their ice or their tv turned on where they have messed up the remote control on it...mgmt still comes gets one of us......if I see a mgmt person coming towards me I know something is up....when our administrator comes to me on my med pass...its usually to tell me about a complaint he got about something or to tell me about a new rule he's put in place and once in a while he'll ask me for a tums b/c its a "heartburn kind of day". In my particular place, not all, our mgmt team is terrible. They pile on the work and cut our staff down and expect us to move mountains. They even bring financial papers for us to get our new admits to sign...which I just smile and nod appropriately to...I dont get them signed b/c I cant explain what it is. I have no idea what these people are signing.....again...with mgmt if we have a problem they never do anything about it. They will let us talk and talk ....and tell us what we wanna hear and thats about as far as it goes. Floor staff lose faith in mgmt staff in a hurry. Once that faith is lost....trust is lost also and thats nearly impossible to restore once its destroyed.

You could probably offer them a direct deposit paycheck if they stay at home on the couch or in bed, and they still wouldn't be satisfied. Like someone else said, keep trying.

it is called implied incompetence.....my mother did it all the time...it gets old.....you need to emphasis that management has this little bit of time and they are willing to do a task to help out....

sasha who made a reply a few up is on the right track. if management wants to really help, they just need to help (no grand standing needed with a meeting), they know what needs to be done, they're the bosses.

it's understandable if someone ask u what u need help doing, if they don't know what ur doing, that's not the case here.

For criminees sake. NO ONE on the management team implied, inferred, or stated anyone was incompetent. If all y'all don't need help, just say so and I'll do MY job without helping you any more.

If I don't know what YOU (not u) need help with, I might just be in the way. You're all a bunch of whiny ingrates and YOU"D fit right in with the whiners in my building.
