Is anyone near or in the path of Katrina?

Published

I have been following the weather channel, and I know this is a scary hurricane. Wondered how the folks in the direct area are holding up?

May God bless and keep you safe.

I am also thinking of the nursing homes that are under evacuation at the moment, and the hospitals that will on alert for what is to come.

I live in Mississippi, so I'm in the direct path of the hurricane. The hurricane has moved a little bit to the east so it will be (so the meterologist says) a little easier (whatever that means....) on New Orleans, but worse for us, especially those that live on the Gulf Coast. It is supposed to reach in as far as Central Mississippi with winds up to 100 mph. School was cancelled for me and the kids, but my husband still went to work:( . Hopefully they will let him leave early. Central Mississippi shouldn't experience the effects of Katrina until early afternoon.

Praying for the safety of you and your family. Keep safe.

Just woke up after a long nightshift. One of the nurses husband kept calling giving updates. He said President was releasing gas reserve, bodys were floating in the canal but they do not know if they are fresh bodys or bodys from the cemeterys. This is very bad. Keep praying!

Just got home and heard on news that they are evacuating the entire city of New Orleans. What is going to happen to all those people? They didn't have any place to go prior to Katrina, where will they all go now? My heart goes out to everybody touched by this disaster. I talked to my son last night, all is well with them, thank goodness. I can't imagine in my wildest dreams what these people are going through. I just can't fathom it, no water, no food, no bed to sleep in. Makes me want to wrap my arms around all of them and take them into the comfort of my own home. Disease will run rampant from all that water. I will continue to keep everyone in my prayers.

My heart is so sorrowful right now for all the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.:crying2: I am watching the news right now, and it's devastating to see the many people camping out on the Interstate because they have nowhere else to go. The water is getting higher all the time. I saw women holding newborns, and they don't have any place to go. The most painful part of the entire situation is watching people looting. Instead of trying to be of help to each other, they are stealing t.v.s, etc. :uhoh3: My deepest prayers are with those affected by the hurricane.

I saw on cnn they are trying to evacuate the prison. It looks like a mess.

My friends husband was telling us that he knew a man that helped with a clean up in Louisianna years ago and he said the swamp area flooded and the salt water drove the snakes out. His friend said they found hundreds of people dead not from drowning but from snake bites.

Snakes are one of my worst fears.

OMG!!! I would probably die of a massive coronary if I got bit by a snake. Ugh! I just don't see how they are going to get all those people out of there and where are they going to put them? I know there are all sorts of agencies and help in the area, but they still have to have food, water and housing of some sort. Even if they set up a tent city, it would take time and a lot of resources. And, they still would have to transport all those people to it. Can you imagine the mosquitoes, snakes, gators and heaven only knows what else. I just can't imagine, no home, no job to go back to, no schools for the children. It will take time to get things that aren't demolished back to a functional state.

As I understand it, FEMA and the Red Cross are moving hundreds of buses into the area to evacuate the Superdome and move them to the Houston Astrodome. The Astrodome is being set up as a shelter, they have running water for showers and toileting, light, telephones, air conditioning, food, clean clothing, and so many things that we take forgranted everyday. Hospitals in Kentucky have been told to prepare to recieve the evacuated patients from hospitals along the Gulf Coast, 15 hospitals including VA, childrens and psychiatric hospitals will be ready. The Kentucky National Guard is sending pararescue and swift water rescue teams and search and rescue helicopters to the area.

I have never heard of him. Is this a good thing? Opportunist?

I'm in Tennessee near Memphis area, we got a mild dose of Katrina. Some people still without power due to downed trees, some gas stations empty, gas prices are high. A lot of vets taking in/boarding displaced animals and all hotels and motels are full.

Caretaker, I hope things are okay for you.

How are things in your area and around Memphis?
