Which applications for iPod Touch do you use for clinical? Which are helpful? TIA!
Also, I found a coupon code for Unbound Medicine which makes Nursing Central. 20% off with the code GIFT10
I got this app this fall for nursing school and am loving it! You also get the program on your computer with your log in name/password. It is so awesome for looking up meds/diseases quickly.
I use Nursing Central from Unbound Medicine, it was actually required by my school to buy a subscription. I also downloaded Nursing Diagnosis from Unbound Medicine as well which really helped me with care plans and DAR notes.
I like Epocrates, NurseTabs, SkyScape for general information. There is a free Micromedex app that is fantastic. I like the "Nursing in a Flash" series for NCLEX review, there are apps for: Med-Surg I & II, Peds, & Psych. There is an app called "Calculate (Medical Calculator) by QxMD" that has 150+ medical calculators and clinical tools and it's FREE. I would also recommend an app for medical Spanish. I like "Pocket Medical Spanish" which is very handy with Latino patients who do not speak English or speak very little English.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!
hi im just wondering if these apps you guys suggested would work on ipod touch even with no internet? or do they need internet access in order to work?
They work without a connection if you pay and download them. :)
All of the hospitals around here are broadcasting a wireless connection...I'm tossing around the idea of just using drugs.com etc instead of paying for these subscriptions. Hm.
Parts of Skyscape are free. Medscape is free (and you can download a larger file for access when you don't have a wifi connection)
Micromedix is free.
There are a number of free or "lite" apps that you can try. Sometimes it's easier to search from your iPod Touch and select medical or science & free. You'll see the top free apps.
I don't pay for any subscriptions for any of the medical apps I have. Many parts of Skyscape are free: ACC Guidelines (Cardiac), Archimedes (Tools, Calculators, Index), Check Rx (Med Interaction Analyzer), Rx Drugs (Med Information)
Epocrates is free and has pill identification and drug interaction features
One other, the Tabor's medical dictionary that was required for school included not only a CD ROM of additional information, but also an access code that enabled me to download Tabor's onto my iPod (this one is through Skyskape). When I save enough $$, Tabor's sends a discount code to download nursing central that has several great applications.
MicroMedics is free as long as you "update" every 90 days (and if you sync your iPod Touch on a regular basis you'll be in "compliance" with this requirement)

Nursing central and Skyscape require you to renew every year. But Nurs Cent allows you to keep already downloaded content after your year is up.
Skyscape deletes everything if you don't renew.
