Interview tomorrow!

Hey all,

I have an interview tomorrow for a k-5 school, where I am currently working as a 1:1 LPN. I passed my RN boards in February. I have been working in peds for 4ish years as an LPN. I am very nervous about the interview with there being 5 people there! Anyways, I am wondering what kind or scenario questions you guys got during your interviews? Hope to be joining you all soon!!! :-)

Good luck! I didn't really get asked medical questions because I interviewed with non-medical people. They wanted to know that I could handle talking with parents and handling difficult kids more than they were concerned about emergencies!

An Amish child has puked & has fever. You cannot get a hold of parents. What do you do?

Wear chaps. That's what landed it for me.

I'm in a HS. I have 20 years experience, so I was asked mostly about my experience with teens, concussion protocol, issues like CPS, teen pregnancy, etc. All of which I have dealt with.

They will ask you how to triage, when to escalate. They want to see that you are not afraid to make decisions on the spot. Seizures, meds, immunizations- know your state's requirements.

My interviewers asked very NCLEX-style questions, but they were nurses. Which kid should I see first: kid who fell on his face (potential airway issue, the obvious priority #1 kiddo) vs. angry parent on phone vs. scraped knee vs. other examples. There were a few scenerio questions which weren't obvious, and I had to pick up on a med error and liability issue in the scenario. Those were clever questions that you'd have to be pretty competent to pick up on.

There were also lots of delegation questions, because apparently I will have LPN's and aides to delegate to (woo-hoo!). They also wanted examples of how I worked with people of other cultures, and questions about how how I've shown leadership. They always wanted a rationale for every answer, they really wanted to see the ability to think critically. I think I'm going to be working with good people who know what they're doing.
