I have been looking all over the net for sources regarding interracial marriage and physiology. I'm supposed to create a paper on this and don't really know where to start because I can't find anything. Only stuff I find is on social or psychological things.
Can anyone PLEASE help.
I mean maybe I can talk about blood mixture or something but I am not finding any sources. The paper has to be 5 pages long only.

I'm not sure what you mean by "interracial marriage and physiology." WHat exactly are you asking or thinking? You need to be more specific.
What exactly do you mean by blood mixture?

The only thing that having interracial offspring would do is decrease the chance of recessive genes being expressed that are common to certain ethnicities.
I am not really sure if that is what you are talking about or not.

Maybe you're having trouble because the "physiology" of interracial marriage..... Is the same as the physiology of any marriage? I don't really understand the topic...

not quite sure what your prof had in mind but, friends of ours had premarital genetic counseling and were told that he carried the sickle cell gene and she happened to carry the tay sachs gene (sp.?) that
aa persons were unlikely to carry the tay sachs gene and caucasian persons less likely to carry the sickle cell gene. their three kids are all just great and free of any genetically inherited conditions.

What undergraduate class would assign a paper with such politically sensitive undertones?
This was a topic given by my teacher in physiology. That's really all I can think of is something to do with genes and blood and blood types.
There isn't a rubric...just an outline like we're supposed to have an abstract, conclusion, etc.
Thanks for the links, Orange Tree. I will look more...thanks for the other ideas guys. If there's anyone else out there who can help steer me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

What a difficult topic. The first problem is who defines what a "race" is. And in the US, despite what "race" a person claims to be, almost all of them are mixed ancestry. African americans who were not born in Africa may have native american, caucasian, and even Hispanic relatives in their background. In other words, they're likely not "pure bred" of that race. The race "caucasian" is a misnomer because it can apply to anyone with lighter skin -- describing people all the way from Iceland to Russia... or to the lighter skinned of Spain and Italy. Knowing that people have been mixing from the middle east to southern Europe to norther Europe since Roman times -- who decides who is "caucasian" and who is not???
My gut reaction is that your professor doesn't understand what an outdated term "race" is, when it comes to medicine. Or perhaps he's still promoting racism is by teaching students to classify people into race pigeonholes? Debating with him probably won't help though. So if it were me, I'd just BS something about recessive genetic diseases. Good luck to you!

I'm in an interracial marriage, and while I can't speak to the physiology, I can state that the anatomy portions match up just fine...
Don't you mean proportions?
