  1. From an article I read a couple months ago( it was on yahoo, can't find the link), FB gives access to firms that carry out background seaches on potential employees for hiring companies. So even if you have very private settings on your facebook page, these companies have access to infomation that say a coworker or employer cannot see. So in short FB doesnt give your information to individuals but to established firms who then turn it over to employers. The article started out by stating that there are companies being established just for the purpose of storing every information put out on facebook, and they interviewed the CEO of one of the companies. How do they get the information to store if FB doesnt give them access? So in short your employer is not the enemy/bad guy, its FB that makes you believe you can have private settings that makes you feel secure enough to post things. In short, if you dont want it to be seen, dont POST it.
  2. please just aim for Med school, if it doesnt work out then go to nursing school. do your prereqs for med school and take the MCAT. focus on getting the best results and if you are a strong candidate. Prereqs for medschool and nursing school are different and pull you in different directions. Nursing school is hard by itself, what if you become an RN, life happens and you are unable to go back to med school.?
  3. Make it through orientation, then practice what you know is right after you are no longer tied to your preceptor. Your patients and colleagues will notice your work ethic
  4. are you serious? nouns and verbs? Maybe they are acronyms for something else in informatics. I hope they are.
  5. I am glad I did not have any school loans, but I have a friend who had 30k plus loans. He paid it off in 2yrs. Another got a business degree from an ivy league school for 110k and paid it off in 3. these were not nursing degrees which is why they were able to pay if off that fast. I dont think it is advisable to have a high amount of loans when the earning potential is not that great.
  6. TickyRN replied to nankie's topic in Ob/Gyn
Well, why would she have the friend in the room if parts of her history was not okay. I dont think you were at fault.
  7. At this point MGT doesnt care, their are a thousand new grads waiting to take your position OP, if you leave. Just do your best and get malpractice insurance.
  8. I would say it's the instructor fault because even if your assigned pt has meds, the instructor should have a) told the nurse the student was going to pass meds. This creates accountability on the part of the nurse. If 9am meds are not given by an agreed time, the nurse can ask the student if it was given or not, and make sure the pt gets their meds b)told the students their assignment/responsibilities for the day. For eg students A &B are going to pass meds today, the rest of the students give baths, etc. This creates responsibility on the part of students A & B . They will/should step up and be ready with information about medication, pt info etc at med time with instructor present. c) told students about expectations on the floor. The OP sounds like a first semester nursing student. In my first semester, I did as I was told, any deviation could cause you to be failed by the clinical instructor. for e.g I was "talked to" for speaking to the pt's primary nurse when I went to look up info on my pt. I needed the info, she was the only one who could help since my instructor wasnt on the floor at the time. Go figure. I didnt even get to give SQ inj till my final semester. But was I failed because of that? NO My advice to the OP and nursing students on AN, a)always CYA and follow chain of command when a clinical instructor fails you for something that was not clarified. Yes a friend was failed in her final semester and the president of the school reinstated her. (Long story) b)Clinical instructors are not gods and can make mistakes too. But they can hinder your nursing career so apease them so you can get out of nursing school. c) If you dont understand something, ask, clarify. Never sign any thing you dont agree with. d)Watch out for what other students are doing in clinicals. If others are passing meds, dressing changes, foleys and tubes, while all you get to do is make beds, be sure to speak up and ask for an oppurtunity to learn too.
  9. Thanks to all that replied I do feel confident in my interview wear so I am going with that. I just wanted to ask.
  10. Scrubs to an interview. I have an interview in a couple days and I was wondering. The last interview I went to, there was a lady in solid blue scrubs and a white jacket. She looked so very nursy/proffessional that I am thinking of doing the same thing. It was a job fair for experienced nurses and it looked like she got a job offer on the spot. I have an interview on a med-surg floor and I am torn between my interview wear and scrubs. Any advice? tips? Has anyone not got a job because they wore scrubs to an interview?
  11. You can do agency with one yr experience. check craigslist and just keep searching. You might even get a travel job at home paying double. good luck. If i may ask, what did you do in your former career.
