Where Am I going to take NCLEX PN Exam?

World International

Published

hi,

I'm a graduating practical nursing student here in Philippines. I plan to work in Canada. As of now I'm waiting for our family's Visa.

My question is - where am I going to take the NCLEX exam? Can I take it in Hongkong? (it's the nearest country here giving NCLEX exam) or should I take it there in Canada? I heard that if I take nclex in hongkong, Canada might not honor my license. I'm quite confused and I really dont know what to do.

Kindly help and englighten me.

Thank you very much.

The NCLEX-PN can be taken anywhere in the world where it is offered. You can take NCLEX-PN in Canada, Hong Kong, New York, or any other place. The location of the testing site does not matter.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Canada may have their own rules on taking the Canadian exam. Best get in touch with the nursing board to where you are planning on living and see what they have to say.

Good luck

Thread being moved to the International Forum, where it is more apporopriate.

A few things that you need to clarify..................are you planning to work in Canada or the US? The NCLEX is only good for the US, and to work in Canada requires that you apply to the province where your family will be, and you must meet their requirements. Several of the provinces reuqire a two year program for the LPN and will not accept your training in the Philippines.

The next issue that you have is that you cannot get a visa that will permit you to work as an LPN in the US. Remember that your school said that you would qualify for that exam, but they never bothered to tell you that you can't work with it in the US> You must have RN after your name.

So, the NCLEX-PN is essentially useless to you, you can't use it in the US, and you need the Canadian exam for Canada.

I suggest that you do some more reading here, and in the Canadian Forum.

In Canada, we write the Canadian Practical Nurses Exam. Each province has a College of Licensed Practical Nurses who are responsible for the exam and verification of a foreign nurses credentials. The exam is written only four times a year. The exam is still paper and pencil written over the course of a day and can take up to ten weeks to recieve a pass/fail notice.

You can be educated in one province and write the exam in another, however, you must apply in each province to obtain a license to practice.

In my province a PN is educated over the course of four semesters, Ontario I believe uses five semesters, not too sure about the rest of the country. As long as your school meets the requirements of the College of LPNs you may write it. The exam is to determine the minimum level of education required to practice. For instance, PN's eduated in BC often require an upgraded A&P course to obtain a license to work in Alberta and other provinces as the training in BC did not include Snellen testing of patients.

It's also not cheap to register in multiple provinces. Between $200-400 and if you are inactive it's still around $50-75 to maintain your practice number.

The program in the Philippines is just one school year, nothing more.

Where is the test location of NCLEX-PN in canada? I'd like to take it in Calgary, Alberta, but anywhere in Alberta or Canada would be ok.

Did you bother to read this thread? The NCLEX is only good in the USA.

If you plan on taking the NCLEX PN then you can find locations on the pearsonvue website. However what visa will you be looking for for working in the US? That is where you may have issues

Wow they really are getting the unsuspected people confused as to what exam is used in what country.

I didn't say i was gonna use NCLEX for working in Canada:D

I don't plan to stop at Practical nurse, but the PN-RN or BSN programs requires PN License. It's still a long way for me. But if I had full time volunteer hours for about 6 months to a year (from USA or any country) I think i can qualify to take Canada's PN exam right?
