Inspiring Quotes

i know there's probably been some threads about this but i guess i just want to make another one.

i love reading insightful/inspiring quotes, or when i'm reading a book and i come across something in it that i have to write down in my journal, just to look back on it and be inspired again.

the friday night knitting club:

"i'll let you in on a little secret. we don't all love our jobs everyday. and doing something you have a passion for doesn't make the work part of it any easier."

"it doesn't?"

"no, it just makes you less likely to quit."

the glass castle: a memoir

sometimes you need a little crisis to get your adrenaline flowing and help you realize your potential.

gemma doyle series (libba bray)

an old beggar woman sits in the damp muck on the walk. she shakes a beaten tin with one penny in it. "please, sir, spare a copper."

kartik places a sovereign in the lady's cup, and i know that it's likely all he has.

"why did you do that?" i ask.

he kicks a rock on the ground balancing it nimbly between his feet like a ball. "she needed it."

father says it isn't good to give money to beggars. they'll only spend it unwisely on drink or other pleasures. "she might buy ale with it."

he shrugs. "then she'll have ale. it isn't the pound that matters; it's the hope." he kicks the rock in a high arc. it skitters down some stone steps. "i know what's it like to fight for things that others take for granted."

"what a wretched existence."

kartik takes on a hard tone. "it is a means to live. life isn't always fair."

the comment is meant to sting and it does. we fall into quiet.

"you're the one always speaking of fate and destiny. how do you explain their lot, then? is it their fate to suffer so?"

kartik shoves his hands into his pockets. "suffering isn't destiny. nor is ignorance."

i was wondering for all the nurses or nurses-to-be, if you guys have any quotes you wanna add? any quotes that inspire/motivate you in your life, quotes that you live by?

"Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire." ~~Oskar Schindler

I have always been a very emotional person, and in the past I use to let my emotions rule my thoughts. For the past two years I have gone through a life changing journey and I am no longer ruled solely by emotion. Being emotional helps me to be compassionate, but now I can channel logic into my thinking instead of being too emotional. I have some quotes in my notebook and I refer to them daily. These concepts have changed my way of thinking, changed my life! - sorry, some of them I cannot remember which book I cut them out from, here they are:

-Remember this maxim: When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. The way you perceive things is an extremely powerful tool that will allow you to attain everything you desire.

-Most people are searching for happiness outside of themselves That's a fundamental mistake. Happiness is something you are, and it comes from the way you think.

-Successful people learn to think from the end that is, they experience what they wish to intend before it shows up in material form.

-Your feelings will not always be true. Feelings can lie. DO NOT BE RULED BY YOUR FEELINGS.

-You are more than your feelings. You are more than your history, and you are more than any one aspect of your total self.

-"You must do the thing you think you cannot do"-Eleanore Roosevelt

These keep me grounded in logic and I read them everday and feel inspired. I think of my pawpaw and as he lay dying I promised him that I would go to college. And at 36, I finally am, and so is his great-granddaughter, my Audrey. I will keep going along my journey, Nursing School and finally an RN. PawPaw, I know you are proud!

Ok this is stupid but another nurse on the floor and I are fans of pirates of the Caribbean and when we pass each other we always say to each other, "Take What You Can...Give Nothin' Back!"

We just do. :D

Then when I was in clinical I remember what an ER nurse told me,

On the floor, a day without dilaudid is like a day without sunshine.

What I say to myself before I start to work or rather read as it's on my notebook:

Happiness depends more on the inward disposition of mind than on outward circumstances.” Benjamin Franklin

and then I say to myself:

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

"no one is listening until you fart"

"be sure brain is in gear before engaging voice"

Basically - this reminds me to keep my "inside voice" under control and "inside" because the one time I let it "outside" someone will hear it and be offended.

In othe words - watch what you say because you never know who will hear your words.
