moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html
we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!
Hi all, I'm baaaaack :) Well, things didn't work out for me moving to Las Vegas, so I am moving back to IL in Sept and guess what?! You got it, starting ISU back up :) Just have my PC course, Adult I challenge exam and the science portion of the TEAS to take! Hopefully I will be starting in January!
~Smashley10- I took the Exelsior Micro exam and got a B...I read the book in two afternoons and took it shortly after. The material (from what I remember) pretty closely followed the study guide. It's been long enough that I don't really remember what sections were covered more than others, but the book was pretty good coverage.
Chaxanmom,
I am taking N450, Community Health, this fall and was wondering what were the assignments for clinical? Were there care plans or concept maps? Also, if you can remember, what were some of the topics discussed in the lecture part of class. I am not really sure what to expect from this class. Thanks for any info.
i called isu phone number yesterday(i'm sure that is isu, not tcn), i was surprise that they said i "have to" join tcn because i'm in california, i tried to ask more question, but sounds like she is pushing me to contact tcn too..... it's not like isu ask you to run away from tcn, why????besides, i read hundreds posts about all the bad experience with tcn, and i totally believe that i don't need tcn to get into isu program. so i just registered with isu myself and find out which class they will credit or not. i will try to wait until the evaluation of my preq. classes first.
anybody who is in california and already into any phase of the isu lpn-bsn program "without tcn" involved? please pm me and leave me your email address. i'm still new to this forum and still not able to pm any of you yet. thanks, and good luck everybody!
i linus, i too talked to isu and they also suggested me to contact tcn. but i went a head and applied for isu admission and transferred my prereq classes... then i went on isu my portal for students and got an audit for the degree. i'm from garden grove, ca. if you're live close. please pm me. i'm hoping to find someone near...
I took the CLEP exam they recommend and didn't score high enough for them (passed ACE req but the school wanted higher). I am taking Coastline Community College's distance program CIS100. It's a good course, the instructor seems pretty cool, and the material is easy to cover. It's all book on CD and you do the CD stuff for the chapter and submit. The class hasn't actually started yet, but I talked to the instructor and explained that I was moving and he told me I could get started on the chapters early.
Does anyone have recommendations for study material for Adult I? I have the book from TCN, but man! I get four or five chapters in and then throw my hands up and walk away....it just seems like so much material for one test. Any flash cards that were helpful?
Hi everyone
I'm new to this site and I really hope u guys could help me. I am starting ISU fall 2010 and have signed up for 208 and 304. Is there anyone in Los Angeles signed up for the program? Does anyone know a preceptor in the area. I'm going nuts trying to find a preceptor. I guess the deadline is 9/3 and if I don't find one I will get dropped from the class.

You can use any RN that can give 2-4 hours of their time a week, actually may be less. One of my uncle's co-workers was my preceptor for the assessment class. ISU should not drop you for not having a preceptor, unless they have changed things since I took the class. Just keep in touch with your instructor about the situation. Some of my classmates were not able to find a clinical site for other classes and they were not dropped from class, they were given an incomplete until they could finish clinical. I had surgery this past semester and was anable to finish and I was given an incomplete and allowed to finish in the summer.
I need help looking for a preceptor for the 1st clinical course. I start next week! Any tips from people who are farther into the program? Im from San Bernardino, CA. Thanks!
Are you talking about the assessment class? Can't remember which nursing course it is. Do you work with any RNs? I just asked one of my uncle's co-workers.
