Indiana State University BSN Thread for Current Students

Published

moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html

we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!

Hey Cindarent,

I am in Nor Cal, in phase II. I missed passing 2 of the CSMs by 2 questions each... very frustrating.

Anyways, I was going to apply for phase 3 in Nov, but now I have to wait until the next round. This thread is VERY helpful with navigating ISU and TCN. Look at the old messages for help :)

Hi Jesscolap,

I am so sorry to hear that you barely missed passing the 2 exams. That must have been difficult after waiting and studying for a while. Which ones did you not pass? Have you taken the other 2 challenge exams? Are there any approved clinical facilities in your area? The list on ISU website doesn't show any for CA at all. Have you started the paperwork on any places? I am hoping to get 2 hospitals in my local area approved by the time I am in, either Fall 10 or Spring 11.

I am studying for N106 right now.

Looking forward to hearing from you again,

Cinda

Oops! I meant Fall 11 or Spring 12

I need help looking for a preceptor for the 1st clinical course. I start next week! Any tips from people who are farther into the program? Im from San Bernardino, CA. Thanks!

RDelaney,

Congratulations on getting in! How is your first semester going? Where are you doing your clinicals? I am in my last semester of my LVN program at Mt. San Jacinto College in Menifee and am finishing my last 3 prereqs in Spring. I am also going to take the challenge exams in the next few months while the info I learned is still fresh. I am doing clinicals for my LVN program at Riverside County Regional Medical Center.

It is so awesome to find someone close by.:)

Just FYI for anyone having difficulties with finding an acceptable Chemistry course; I found an online course (with some help from Joelle at ISU) with a lab component that meets all the requirements. The professor is awesome (so far) and the course is manageable. Weber State University Online. Chem 1110.

Kylea,

How was the online Chemistry through Weber? I am debating taking it through my JC where it is cheaper or online where it may be less time consuming. Was it considered General/Intro Chem? How many hrs per wk did it require? Did ISU accept it without a hitch?

Thanks,

Cinda

I wanted to know if any California students who are currently at ISU took there pre reqs threw the Integrated science program in Los Angeles the are wasc accredited ......or if i can get some info on who to contact to see if Indian accepts it...

thanks

I see you are also in CA. Have you started Phase III yet? I am in the IE working on Phase II still and am glad to find other Californians.

Cinda

Hi all!

I just took my NCLEX-PN, did the Pearsonvue trick and got the "good" pop-up box. So I believe I passed.:yeah:

My next goal is to study for the 4 Phase II Challenge exams to get into ISU.

If all goes well, I plan on starting Phase III Fall 2010. :D

Also, if there is anyone from Northern California who is interested in buddying up for this program to study, please PM me.

Congrats! That must be a great feeling. Have you taken the TEAS exam yet? I have 7 weeks to go in my LVN program. I am taking my last 3 prereqs in Spring as well as doing the challenge exams. I am studying for N106 right now. I am in SoCal, but glad to find other Californians.

Good luck!

Cinda

I am in Sacramento area.. and yes I totally understand you!!

What i did was I applied to ISU and got an acceptance letter, a student ID and few days later went online to ISU-Myportal and printed out what they call a DARS. The Dars lists all the classes that they have accepted, I have 2AS degrees and 1 AA degree, and almost 90units completed, so all of my classes were accepted, but I knew there would still be a class that they would want me to take, so when I met with the advisor, he was great, and he listed a couple of classes that I need to have completed by June of next year, I've decided since I qualify for financial aid that I will just complete them at my local JC. Also I recieved my first CSM and that Mental Health, I was told that once I complete the test I will get the others.

So the only other thing that I need to besides the two classes, the 4csm's is to take th TEAS exam. I'm pretty confident that I will have all of this done by June of next year.

I've nothing but great things on this forum especially from chaxanmom (sp) but on other forums I have heard a lot of negativity so I am hoping for the best, I already signed for the 4csm which cost me 2k so I am going to stay positive.

I am a little worried about the clinicals, I really don't know anybody that would be interested, so I am really hoping to use the sites already in contract with Sonoma State University.

But yes, please do keep in touch, I am not sure if we can post emails, but I think after facebook, this will be the 2nd place that I log on to every night!!

Kelly,

Hi. Where are you at in your program now? How were the Challenge exams? Do you still have your materials and would you be interested in selling them? I am in SoCal and am starting to study for N106 with used books from the class. I have heard the other exams are harder and would like to use as many resources as possible to study with.

If you are on Facebook you can send me a request Cinda Williamson Renteria.

Hi everyone I am an LVN in CA and have been thinking about doing the LVN-RN program through ISU and TCN. I would really like to know how the program is. I have heard alot of bad and good things about it. I would love to hear some of your opinions since you are going through it right now. Thank you and good luck to you all.

Kelly

Did you end up going through ISU? I am in my last 7 weeks of an LVN program in SoCal Inland Empire and am working on my prereqs as well as the challenge exams and hoping to apply for Fall 2011 or Spring 2012.

Cinda

I have just got all my materials to ISU to meet the Nov 1st deadline and now have to wait 3 - 4 weeks for acceptance information. For those of you who are current students I was wondering how long phase III lasts. I was initially told by a rep from TCN that you can choose between an 18 month or an accelerated 9 month program. Is this true or feasable?

Also I passed the 4 CSM's, took them all same afternoon after studying for 3 weeks non stop.

That is amazing you passed all 4- in one day to top it off! I have been worried after hearing that some of them are difficult to pass. What did you do to study besides read? Maybe you should write a book on your secrets to passing-LOL. How was the TEAS exam? What classes are you taking through ISU now?

I am in my last 7 weeks of my LVN program and have been also taking prereqs. I have 3 more classes to take Spring 2011, plus the 4 challenge exams, plus the TEAS exam. I am hoping to do all of this by June 2011. Am I crazy or is this doable in your opinion? I have 6 kids and have been working part time for the last 6 years- all through nursing school, until I was laid off the beginning of Oct. So now I have what feels like a lot more time to study and prepare. I figure I will aim high and then if things don't work out for Fall 2010, I will apply for Spring 2012 instead.

Cinda

Also, anyone who has taken and passed the TEAS exam- Was the ATI study guide helpful? Did you use any other materials to study?

Thanks!

Cinda

So ISU just called and gave me an extension for my last 2 CSMs. I should be starting phase 3 in January! I am taking my TEAS test on Thursday.

Cindarent I will let you know how it goes!

That's great you can start in Jan. What was the original deadline for the csms? Which 2 did you take allready? What are you using to study- books or the TCN modules?:lol2:

Good luck on the TEAS.
