moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html
we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!
Thanks A, I spoke to Mark this afternoon. He called Bridgeport Hospital and spoke to the proper channels. He also reassured me that ISU will find me a clinical site. My major concern was there are only a few hospitals in CT. They are owned by each other (Yale Hsp owns Greenwich Hsp and Bridgeport Hsp) and they are the flagship hospitals. So if they are talking like its a problem having ISU students, then the others shun the program.
I will inform my hospital that they should call Mark, not another clinical site for questions and answers. Do you see how rumors get started? LOL....
again thanks,
Regi
Also, I'm wondering if anyone else on here has done or is in the program in Maryland. If so, where did you do the clinical for Nur 226?
Refresh my memory about what class 226 is. I'm in Maryland and I did assessment, psych, and med-surg at Suburban Hospital. I did critical care and the final practicum at Hopkins and community health at NIH.

226 is psych/mental health. I am so glad to hear that you did that at Suburban. I had seen Suburban on the list, and since I live in Bethesda it is in the perfect location. Just didn't know you could do psych there. Yay!! I am doing health assessment this fall, and it is my understanding that I don't need a clinical location for that - just a preceptor. Was it the same for you; did you find a preceptor there? I am still trying to find one! Also, how many semesters did it take you to complete phase III? Sorry for all the questions, and appreciate any info you can give me!

The preceptor I had for psych is Lynn and she's the clinical nurse specialist on the unit. Hopefully she's still there. She's very excentric and very cool. I like her a lot. :) Very low key psych unit too. Nothing too wild which was nice. I have a couple of RN friends who I talked to about precepting for assessment but their licenses were inactive so Suburban found a nurse educator for me on the oncology unit. She then let me do med-surg there too. Her name is Teresa. Anyway, the contact they have on ISU's list is the lady I went through. She's fantastic. Initially they were a little confused because the assessment class mentions some pretty in depth stuff like in the eye exam and they had no one to teach me that (looking at the back of the eye, etc). We found out, though, that we didn't have to do that part so it worked out fine.
I think I did phase 3 in 4 semesters if I recall. I did have a couple of prereqs that I did along with my nursing classes though.
Hi! I'm new to this site so hopefully I post this right lol. Does anyone know if ISU has a time limit on their prereqs for the LPN-BSN online program? Thanks :)
Nursing course info is at http://www.indstate.edu/nursing/pdfs/handbook-docs/time-limit-for-application-of-credits.pdf
general info is at http://catalog.indstate.edu/content.php?catoid=10&navoid=223&returnto=search#admi_requ_tran though no time limitation noted...so not sure.

Wow, this is very helpful - you are a wealth of information!! Do you remember how heavy a load it was taking transition and assessment along with two other classes? I think I read one of your posts that you took four classes that first semester.

It wasn't too bad at all. What *was* difficult was taking high acuity and community together. Oh my. Each have 90 hours of clinical and community is really paper/project heavy IMO.
