Indiana State University BSN students

Published

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

I have only taken the first one, 106 (Mental health), I need to get my butt in gear and take 224. I will be registering for it soon, I am just trying to wrap up this semesters courses. Have you registered for it yet? I am still trying to find the figures but it was pretty expensive....waiting on my next student loan check to come:-)

I thought you had to take 106 before 224...Dr. Miller is always saying 100's before 200's, 200's before 300's ect.?

As far as I know there isn't an order for the 4 modules. I'd really like to get the adult one and the peds one done before classes start on the 7th that way I've got part of 106 done so maybe I should plug away at that one too. I can take the test outs when my student loan money comes too. Mental health and childbearing family are shorter so those will be easier to do during the semester. I just registered for the first two nursing courses so I'd have time to get all my pre-reqs out of the way. Plus it gives Mike more time to get my clinical site arranged.

My TCN paperwork said $780 for testing fees so I'm guessing around $200 each?

Oh hey, what did you do for the mentoring part of 301 (health assessment)? Kim said it wasn't a full blown clinical and that my instructor would give me details when class starts. I'm not working right now but I just found out yesterday that a lady at our church is a PhD nurse educator so that might be an option.

This is still a better price than what TCN is offering right now.........2520 for 4 modules is 630 a piece........

Call TCN and see if any specials are going on right now. If you want them and can get them for $1000 or something that's even cheaper.

Hi,

How does financial aid work at ISU? What qualifies for federal ?

ISU is an established brick and mortar school rather than a "virtual university" like Excelsior so you just fill out your FAFSA, etc like if you were attending in person. I'm transferring my student loans over to ISU now.

I am not an on campus student, I am a distance student so I arrange a preceptor through ISU. So far I have had nurses that I work with that have their BSN to be my preceptors. It is a lot of work on thier part and you have to learn from them so it is important that you pick a good preceptor.

Chelle,

Are you taking any gen ed classes thru ISU? If so, which ones?

Brenda

I spoke with the lady from college network and she said that Texas would not except Indiana States Rn program. Is that true? Anyone know. I will be Oklahoma licensed as an LPN, but will get a Texas LPN also.

This semester (fall) I am taking my gen eds @ my local community college (Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana) but I will be taking some gen eds this spring at ISU. Right now I am registered for spring '08 ISU, ENG305T Technical writing and LIFS412 Patho, I will also be registering for FIT100 Fitness @ Ivy Tech and then studying for some other test outs. The two test outs that I am working on right now are American Hist. II (clep) and Intro to world religions (dantes).

If anyone here is from Indiana or has attended Ivy Tech I have some transfer sheets that specifically apply to Ivy Tech student. I also have a list of test outs available for some of the gen ed courses if anyone wants that, it applies to all LPN to BSN students not just Ivy Tech students.

Hi Chelle, can you please tell me if you received all your modules after you signed up with TCN. Did it include the CSM modules? Did you meet with a sales person before you joined or was it done over the phone, please tell us how you got signed up and what you received. How about clinicals how was this set up? I'm just a little mix up with the whole thing. I read a post that when the sales person meets with you and say you decide to sign up then the materials are left with the student. But when I called TCN, I was told they only send one module at a time? Please help me understand the process. Thanks! laura

Yes, a salesman came and met with me, he was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful and then I signed up. But....then I called and cancelled my contract the next day because I realized that I can buy the learning material much cheaper on Ebay and such....they are only selling you learning material.

So, I never received anything, I have passed many of the test outs on courses I need by either general knowledge or buying study guides off of Ebay. That is *a lot* of money for learning material that you can buy second hand....just my opinion.

Hi Chelle,

Do you know if Statistics is a required class for ISU?

Brenda

Another question for Chelle (girl you need your very own "Ask Chelle" sticky...lol!). What was the test out that you failed? 106? You said something about a lot of meds being on it so I was wondering if you were actually referring to psych nursing?? I have the module for mental health aspects and it's basically all therapeutic communication.

I think I've made my final decision on spring semester classes. I'm doing transition LPN-BSN, health assessment, nursing research, and psych. Plus the 4 modules (almost done with 2 of them though). I've lost my mind. lol! Oh well, if I load up pretty heavily I can be done by the end of next school year (09). My daughter will be starting middle school that fall and she's so not going to public middle school so I need to be able to pay private school tuition by then. Oy. Plus my husband needs a new car in a bad way. Living on an enlisted Navy salary alone for the past 10 years has NOT done our budget any favors. lol! I'm ready to be DONE!!
