Indiana State University BSN students

Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!

Hi Chelle,

Do you know if Statistics is a required class for ISU?

Brenda

I think it is Brenda. If I could make any sense of my DARS report I could tell you for sure (lol) but I think it's one of the pre-reqs.

I am pretty sure it is as well. I was just hoping it wasn't!

Thanks Tiffany.

P.S. It is so exciting for me to see you getting ready for all the nursing classes. I am a year behind you so I will be using you as my role model.....scary????? =)

Yes, statitics is recquired. It is HLTH340 @ ISU. I am going to register for HLTH340 but take the year based version. I have been told by a few people that it is easier that way, you can complete the work in a month or a year:-) The only drawback to the year based is that you cannot use fin. aid to pay for it. The class is @ $600. Well I guess you could use your refund money (if you get any) for it but you cannot use it as one of your classes that you use to qualify for fin. aid. There is also an Excelsior test out that satisfies the recquirement but I'm not going to try that one.....may be an idea though if you can locate learning materials through ebay or something.

Yes, the test out that I failed the first time was 106, Mental health, and yes, it seemed to have a lot of drugs on it. The second time I passed it ok but it was hard.

Chaxanmom-I think you are taking the exact four courses that I just finished. I took NURS200 and NURS208 the first semester, then NURS226 (mental), and am just finishing NURS318 (family stress & crisis) and NURS322 (theory based nursing) I have six more nursing courses to go, 9 gen eds, and 3 test outs and I *think* I will be done. Some of the gen. eds I will be attempting to test out of and some of them like foreign language I will be taking on campus. I hope to be done by the spring of '09. Are you working at the same time? Because that is a *lot* of classes.

Chelle

Not working at the same time thank goodness!! lol! Hey, what are you doing with your books from those classes? I found all the health assessment ones on half.com for super cheap but the lists aren't up for the other 3 yet.

Another Q for Chelle. Student loan refunds and books...do they get your refund to you in enough time to get books before class starts?? My old school had book advances but ISU doesn't.

I borrowed all of mine from a girl ahead of me, I can ask her what she will sell them for if you can get me a list of the ones you need. Half.com is awesome, I buy and sell all of my books on there.Good luck and feel free to email if you get in a rut:-)

Chelle,

Was there any clinicals for NURS 200?

Hope you won't get tired of me =)

Brenda

Hope you don't get tired of me answering for her...lol! No clinicals for 200 technically but you need a mentor with at least a BSN to help you. Doesn't have to be in a clinical facility though. She says its better if it isn't. I just found out that the mom of one of my sunday school kids is a nurse educator with a PhD in nursing so I'm gonna ask if she can mentor me. I hope so...that would be awesome!!

Oh and about stats...I just talked to my research in nursing professor about the class and she did mention that students do better if they've already had their stats class. :)

Tiffany,

How did you take your stats class?

Brenda

And any idea how many credits you have to take at ISU to qualify for financial aid?

Not sure if it will apply to those outside of CA but the paper that I got form the TCn rep shows that statistics can be taken as an excelsior exam.

I took it as a regular college class a bazillion years ago. For financial aid pretty much anywhere you have to be at least half-time which is 6 credit hours so 2 classes.

Hello Everyone, First I would like to say that this is absolutely a GREAT FORUM for nurses. I used to feel like I was all alone out here in the nursing world. I am an LVN have been for 7 years. I am currently enrolled in ISU LVN to BSN Program. All my pre req were done at a community college, I am here in Cali and the competition is fierce when it comes to getting in to RN school. Is there any one out there who has taken the Life Span and Development Exam? if so how was it? Also are there ANY ISU on-line grads out there? if so PLz Plz give me some encouraging words. Thanks!
