  1. Pretty isn't always better. My company closed down after over 50 years. It was a old building. Most of the employees had worked there for over 20 years. However yes it was a nursing home that had problems at times. My new job was a brand new nursing home. It was beautiful. I stayed 4 months to give it my best shot. The only good about the place was it was pretty, short drive to work and of course the residents. It made me physically sick to get up and go there every day. I got out quick. I worked to hard to get my license. So pretty isn't always better. Wish that I was at my old job. Right now I am enjoying the couch while I look for another job. Good luck. P. S. Make sure when you find a place for your loved one that family shows up to check on them frequently.
  2. Try Western Texas College in Snyder, Tx. I just finished A&P 1. It has alot of busy work but I passed. Labs online also.
  3. I am taking online A&P 2 this summer.
  4. Are any of you taking Microbiology online?
  5. Yes you can do it. This nurse is dumber than dirt. I was dismissed twice from nursing school. For skills checkoff one time, and missing one on the dreaded math exam. Yes some of the instructors were mean to me, in fact it was so bad I should have retained an attorney. However for being dumber than dirt C student my grades averaged a B in my first nursing school The reason being I wanted to be a nurse and I studied hard. So after a year of sitting on the sofa and crying about it. I dusted myself off applied to another school and guess what? I graduated the top my my class and passed the Nclex on the first try. Also the instructors treated me with respect and not like I was a stepchild. Yes you can do anything you want if you make up your mind to do it.
  6. I always wear my whites and cap during nurses week. The older folks love it.
  7. My nursing home has the same issues with call ins. As a nurse it drives me crazy. It just seems to me that young people just don't have any kind of work ethic. The sad thing is the residents are the ones that suffer. I just don't understand how management lets them keep there jobs. Sad.
  8. Wait a minute. You forgot the new admit. paperwork paperwork
  9. Don't give up your dream. You can do this. Or find another program.
  10. I regret stepping foot in my first nursing school. It was awful and I was dumb enough to not realize that it was all about how much money they can make off students and then find ways to dismiss them after being in the program until time to graduate. And I also was dumb enough to go back again to the same program. I went back the third time to another school and excelled. Always check out your schools retention rate and the Nclex pass rate. It is hard to believe that a school lets in fifty students and 20 graduate. Something is terribly wrong. Nursing school is hard but it shouldn't be that hard. Most of the students dismissed from my first program wasn't for grades. They should screen students better before hand if they are being dismissed for things other than grades. My vent. Good luck students. Kiamichi Technology Center-Durant, Oklahoma rocks.......

We have them. But wish they would put them on the med carts and in the med room to catch the nurses that steal meds.
  12. You can do this. Hang in there. You sound like the typical nursing student to me. The nerves go with it. You can do this and don't quit. Good luck.
  13. Thanks all. I really don't think it's yeast. But there is an odor. The crack of the fold gets really red, then sometimes bleeds. She has had a blister pop up and took a week then it went away with antibiotic and dressing. The other things look like skin tears on the inner fold. It is so big and tight that I have to have an aide hold it up for me just to get in there and look. Maybe I will try the fungal powder. It just doesn't have the look of yeast. Yes she is pretty dependant on us. We have to use the lift to get her to the bathroom, and into her WC. She has her mind more of less, so it is hard to get her to eat right as she sure likes the PBJ sandwiches everyday. I also have put in for the bigger bed. Hopefully she gets it. Thanks folks and keep the suggestions coming. This lady is very special. And it sure is early so excuse my writing. Thanks.
  14. I am at a loss. One of my residents skin keeps breaking down. Under her belly roll, buttocks, arms. Could someone give advice on what to put under the belly when the skin starts bleeding. I have tried powder, selan cream and then putting a sheet or towel under the roll. Her bottom is breaking down also and I spray it with granulex while toileting her. She can not turn on her side in bed as the bed is not wide enough. So when in bed she lays flat with her head elevated. Any advise would help. Thanks.
  15. You will take A&P at the beginning of the program. It is basic but no cake walk. When you go on for your RN you will have to take A&P 1&2. College level. Kiamichi is like the allied health A&P they offer at NCTC but I didn't think it was as hard. But will still need to study. Kiamichi is called the best kept secret in Durant. And it is. They are there to graduate nurses. And they do. The retention rate is high and don't loose many and when they do it is hard on the instructors and the students. The Nclex rate is high also. So I vote for Kiamichi Technology Center/ Durant. Good Luck.
