  1. Hi, I am puzzled about something and I thought I would ask here because I am unsure where to ask. I don't have to do this until next year, but I thought I would ask now to help me plan ahead. Next year in September I will be starting school on my journey to be a nurse. One requirement to enter the CNA course is a 2-step PPD. At my job, I have to have a PPD Test every year; usually at the end of August and I have it done at work. I work at a nursing home around patients in a non-nursing capacity. For my CNA course I will need to get the 2-step PPD at about the same time. The school does not accept completed tests more than six months old. My questions are: When should I get the 2-step PPD test from my doctor? Is there a certain time period of how much time I would need to wait between the PPD at work and the 2-step PPD? I was thinking of having the 2-step PPD test from my doctor around July of next year, then get my one-step PPD at work in August as usual. Is this an adequate (and safe) time gap between tests? Thank you for your help. :)
  2. Hello and welcome to the site. You're not alone in the older crowd. I will be 48 in June. However, the nursing staff at the LTC facility on the units where I work in food service think I am between 18 to 20 because I look very young for my age. :) Age does not matter where dreams are concerned.
  3. What are all of the duties of LPNs at LTC facilities? I work in the LTC areas of the hospital where I work for two of the four hours I am there and I have been observing what the LPNs do. Most of the "dirty work" (diapers, changing the patients) is done by the CNAs (most of the nursing staff here are CNAs) as well as making beds, laundry, feeding, bathing, and assisting the patients. I have observed the LPNs only distributing meds and testing blood sugar, but I am sure they do more than that. I am interested in learning what they do because I hope to be doing the same thing one day. Thank you. :)
  4. Is anyone currently attending the Nursing Program at the Atlantic Cape Community College? Or, has gone there recently? I am considering going into their Nursing Program, but I would like to hear from others who have attended their program regarding their experiences getting into the program and attending it. I am new to all of this and feeling overwhelmed. I am 47 years old and this is a major change for me, but I would like to become a nurse. What hours of the day do you attend the classes and clinicals? Are the clinical sites nearby? Taking the prerequisite courses BIOL120, ENGL101, PSYC101 and SOCL101 are required before applying to this program. While I was looking over those courses, I noticed there are lists of courses I must take first in order to take these required courses! How did you manage to take all of these courses without feeling overwhelmed and discouraged? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you. :)
