  1. Just to clarify - do you already have a bachelor's degree? If so you can probably do an accelerated program. I know the one here at Hopkins is a 13 month program, very stressful, but at least you're done in a year.
  2. So far, I only know of one college that has an evening/weekend program - CCBC - Essex. Anyone know of any others? Just curious. I'm attending Essex right now for my pre-reqs, but still want to keep my options open when it's time to apply for nursing school.
  3. congratulations You will be right down from the Hippodrome. If you're a theatre buff, make sure you check out a few shows. It's a beautiful theatre.
  4. If anyone needs a refresher on the chemistry part, I'm so glad I bought the book "An Introduction to Chemistry for Biology Students" . It's really helping me a lot. It's a workbook that takes you step by step through all the atoms, molecules, neutrons, protons, etc. and puts them in simple terms so you can understand the concepts. I think it should be required for anyone taking a biology course, especially on the molecular level.
  5. Ahhh! This is harder than I thought it was going to be! Lots of Chemistry is involved in molecular biology and it's been way too long since my last chemistry class. I feel like I'm so far behind and it's only the 3rd week. Anyone else?
  6. Actually JHH just raised all of their salaries in June (I work for them). They are very competitive now salary-wise.
  7. Most science courses have labs and yes the lab manuals are important to follow the labs. I have biology this semester and went to get my manual yesterday (the class starts today). Why wouldn't you buy what you need?
  8. Doesn't this bug you though? I did a group project with a few youngsters over the summer and they were not focused at all. I ended up doing most of the work. I'd love to be able to do labs on my own.
  9. We have a evening/weekend program here, but when I apply I'm taking advantage of a program here at work (I work for a hospital) where I can go to school and work part time but still retain my full time benefits and salary. It's a huge benefit and was put into place to fill the nursing shortage. When I graduate I will work as a nurse for the hospital for a year as a payback.
  10. YAY for us! I think the only person that has NOT questioned my return to school is my fabulous partner of 8 years. Despite all the questions and doubts like "...at YOUR AGE??? (how many of us have heard that one?) We still persevere and go for it. We are phenomenal people all of us.
  11. :yeah:Yayy! But you took the first step and registered to do it! I know exactly what you're going through but in my case it's been 17 years. I was the oldest one in my Psych class over the summer (including the teacher :imbar). I was struck by how young these kids are when we started talking about Sept 11th and nobody had a real grasp for what happened that day. They couldn't! They were only 12 or 13 at the time But I was the smartest kid in the class anyway and ended up with an A - people were looking to me for answers Use your experience and motivation to keep you going even when it starts getting tough! You'll be glad you waited, believe me.
  12. Definitely look on Amazon.com for your textbooks. I also sell the ones I have used and make some money that way:yeah:. If you put the ISBN number in, you will be sure that you are getting the right edition. Also don't forget Barnes & Noble. My Bio text was 176 in the bookstore at college, but cheaper on BN.com. Plus I have a book club membership so I got an additional discount. I think I paid around $120 instead for a brand new book.
  13. No, Microbiology is an entirely separate course, which I also have to take later on after A&P. This one is called Cell & Molecular biology.
  14. I'm taking Biology 110 - Cell & Molecular Biology. I start on August 26. Next WEEK! I'm excited and nervous, but at least it's the only class I'm taking and I can give it my full attention. It's been longer for me. I haven't been in a college classroom for close to 18 years.:imbar
  15. I'm 42 and just starting back myself. I have 3 years before I even start nursing school. Do you feel old and unable to learn? Probably not. It's never too late. I'm a vegetarian myself and I hear ya about the dissections, but like a friend of mine said to me, the kitty is already dead and nothing you can do about it. The cats are not cute and cuddly like ours at home. Think of it as giving it's life to your future learning. Otherwise it died in vain. Just like you need to separate yourself emotionally from your patients you can separate your sympathy for the animal from your need to learn. Hope that helps.
