  1. I just wonder what I am doing wrong to not even get a couple days to consider my app....its like....we got it and.....turned down...thanks
  2. I enjoy my job. Some days are better than others but overall I enjoy it. Like others have said I want to make sure I have options which I am already short of. I am gonna start my bachelors program soon. Even though I most days like my job I just feel kind of put out that they really turn down my apps so quick.....and at this point i do enjoy psych.....just dont want to stay at this facility forever...even applied at some state hospitals....
  3. I graduated in may 2011 with adn. I accepted a job at a LTC behavioral health facility and have been employed there ever since. I have been applying to various other jobs at local hospitals because....though I have learned alot...I feel I am missing that 1st year experience with the hands on skills. We have G-tubes, wound care, IV meds, catheter insertion and care. I still feel like I could learn so much more. My applications get turned down so very quickly when I apply to hospitals...any advise to help me get a hospital job to build on my knowledge and skills. I feel like they don't even look at my app...
  4. where everything just seems to go bad. My first day back in the hospital after winter break, I'm a bit rusty on skills anyway, in a different hospital so I didn't know where everything was, and so on and so forth. My patient was ok, but she did not like student nurses. wish she would have said something when I first got on the floor so I could have been reassigned, but anywhoo...said pt would not let me help transfer her because she did not trust student nurses...said it to the RN....right in front of me. Later on after I had done my assessments and was gathering data from the computer my instructor told me my pt needed the dressing changed, the RN went in to ask her if I could(RN told me the pt was really rude and maybe if she asked pt I would be able to change the dressing) anyway the pt said no and she didn't want me in there anymore(the RN and instructor told me it was not anything i did...thank god) but I still felt kind of bad. I know the pt just had her own opinion but how are people supposed to learn. It was just a bad start to my second semester of clinical. I know I shouldnt let it get to me....it wasn't anything I had done wrong....but it still is a bad start.
  5. My program moved away from the waiting list. I think it was between 1 and two years when they had it. Now you apply and either your in the next semester or you can reapply for the following semester. I applied in march, was accepted in April and started in August
  6. I have my comp testing next week, I know my stuff, I have practiced in the lab throughout the semester and probably at least 8 hours outside of class this week. I am just worried that when I get in there I will get nervous and go blank. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stay calm and focused during the testing. Any ideas on how to say calm beforehand, I know my material it just kills me to know that if I fail comps I fail the semester and as of now I am getting an A in the class. (btw this is my first semester so I don't really know what to expect)
  7. we started with 40 and are now down to 36, with 4 week to go in the first semester. I know the two people from my lab group were doing good. They realized nursing wasn't there cup of tea. I know of one other person who failed out, and the last one, I don't know what there issue was. It seems like, in my program at least, most who leave just realize nursing is not for them. we'll see what happens toward the end with comps and finals and ati testing and all, who knows, I may be out by the end(really hope not though)
  8. I'm sure someone else has had to do one. Mine involves a complete medical history from patient and medical charts. relevant meds for each system, risk factors from lifestyle, orders(activity, scd's etc)grid, reason for diet ordered. 24 hour diet plan, medcards, and probably about 10 other things I can't think of without the paper in front of me. Does anyone have any suggestions to tackle this beast. I got alot of info from the patient, my medcards are done, but I have so much left to do. I have a schedule set for this week, I just don't want it to come down to the last second to finish it. how have other people handled these kinds of assignments. thanks
  9. I do have the drive. It has just been such a discouraging week. It makes me wonder if I have what it takes?
  10. I am having a tough time. I am doing great in class, my clinical instructor says I'm doing good. I still get nervous at clinicals, last week my nurse said I seem timid. Today we had our injecction lab, my instuctor asked me if I get shakey when I am nervous.Yes i do. I am wondering, and have been for the last week, if I should leave the program. I don't want to. I know if I can make it through this I can find something I like. I have just been so discouraged since last friday, and today didn't help matters. I just don;t know what to do, and I'm tired of feeling so discouraged and down. should I find another path, or stick it out.
  11. I am currently in nursing school. I like it and I think I will like the profession, but I find myself drawn to becoming a paramedic. I have been looking into it because I would love the idea of my job being so intense. I know nursing is intense also, but it is a different kind of intense. I am an adrenaline junky and I think I would love it. Has anyone been a paramedic before becoming a nurse, and if so, can you give me advice on the career. I know I probably shouldn't post this on this forum, but I couldn't help myself. Im not going to give up on nursing. I just want some input. thanks

I'm not a timid person at all outside clinicals. I think I get nervous because I am intimidated at this point. I'm still new to this.

In my clinical today my nurse told me I seem timid. I am kind of nervous in the hospital, but I'm in my first semester with no health care experience. I know I shouldn't take it personally, but it kind of hurt my feelings. I am normally not a timid person at all, and it kind of made me wonder if I should pursue nursing if it makes me that awkward. Hopefully I'll get over it. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can get over my "timidness" I want to get more comfortable, and compared to my first day I am much more comfortable. I guess not enough though.any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  14. notebooks suck. If you really want it, it can happen.(hopefully, im still in my first semester)
  15. I'm in my first semester, and we have lost a few people. I'm my opinion most of them did not like nursing. The two we lost last week said it just wasnt for them, and they knew what was right for them. I bet a few just failed out(someone left a test crying) but I don't think the instructors want us to fail, they want us to be PREPARED. I actually had a talk with my instructor about it because someone who became a friend of mine quit and at first it made me question if I was cut out for nursing. I think talking with her made me want it more. It's not easy, but if
