Got into nursing school!!
How long did it take you to get into nursing at your CC once you got on the list?

How long did it take you to get into your nursing program?
I am at a community college taking pre-reqs. I didn't pass the reading portion of the CPT (super hard, btw) so I have to take a reading class and take the CPT again. After I pass I will be put onto the nursing list for the program. I will start Nursing 1. I will take the test this spring semester so I will be put onto the list at the end of spring. How long do you think it will take to get into the program? This isn't like actual nursing schools where it takes a long time to get in. My mom said it took her 2 semesters and she was starting Nursing 1. . so *crossing fingers* HOPEFULLY I will be in by next spring.

ADN or BSN??
I am currently at a community college taking my pre-reqs also. This college only offers the ADN degree. When I apply after this spring semester, it will take probably a year to get in. But after I finish my ADN degree and become an RN, I want to transfer to another school that offers BSN. BSN is just a higher degree. And maybe the difference between them both is that it might be easier to get into the ADN rather than the BSN. Good Luck.

Help with prereqs(Anatomy and physiology)
I took it in highschool, not college yet. But the hardest part is having to know and REMEMBER everything you learn. Know all the bones in the body, all the muscles, know every system. I was fascinated by the class and absolutely loved learning about it. I love learning the systems and how they work... but trying to remember every bone in the body- BOORING. You just have to push yourself. Good Luck.

Medical Terminology Class?
How hard would you say the Medical Terminology class was? I am starting it in a month and I am currently JUST doing gen eds until I start nursing in Spring 2011. Would you say the class is rather boring? Hard? I am very excited to start the class but some people dont like it. Thanks for your opinion.

I need a nurses advice! - I have a problem (medical)
K so.. my background > 1. My mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt all have hypothyroidism 2. I have a menstrual issue- I have a disease called Endometriosis. 3. I have a bicornuate uterus 4. I have bladder and kidney problems- I have UTI's basically all the time. I try taking medicine, but it always comes back. 5. I am on Ortho Cyclen Birth Control MY PROBLEM: I have absolutely no energy. It's been this way for the past year or so. I can't wake up without needing a nap an hour or two after I wake up. All I do all day is sit around. When I try gettin up and doing something it absolutely wears me out and I feel I need a nap even more. I get headaches all the time. My energy level has gotten even worse this past month ... to where when I get up and walk or stand up- I have to lean on something just to keep myself up. I get hotflashes all the time and I swear it's from my energy problem. If I can't get a nap I feel like crying. --My diet isn't the best. But I have cut down on Caffeine. I barely drink caffeine. I have been eating breakfast lately, I eat maybe yogart or crackers w/ cheese for lunch, and then for dinner I eat just a regular dinner. I don't have a terrible diet, so I don't think that is the issue. --I take vitamins daily. I have never stopped taking them. I take them with my birth control pills everyday! --What is your opinion? I have to have the Depo Lupron shot in about a month because of my endometriosis, which is gonna make me feel absolutely worse. If it is hard for me to work or report to my daily schedule now, I think being in menopause is gonna kill my life. I need help! --Last thing, my doctor tested my thyroid 3 months ago and said it was fine, but I think he made a mistake or something. My doctor is a wack! He was wrong about stuff, multiple times. So he isn't getting my trust too much anymore.

Most Useful Non-Nursing Course(s)
I am not a nurse yet, nor have gotten into my nursing classes yet.. but I think Psychology would help A LOT because it helps you understand different cultures and how they do things. It teaches you that in some cultures- eye contact - is very important, so as a nurse, you will learn that giving eye contact will make your patients feel more welcome and safe. That was just an example. Psychology is a very good subject to study while in nursing courses.

What area do you work in? Pro's & Cons?
I am a Pre-Nursing student andI am absolutely excited to start my clinicals and nursing classes!! I have been reading my moms NCLEX-PN book and I get extremely excited to finish school and start working. My question is what area do you work in and what do you like most about it? I am in love with the Female System; pregnancy, pregnancy complications, medications, infants... so I think I will be trying to be with Labor and Delivery when I start working. How hard is it to get into that? I want to know roughly how much you get paid and what kind of area you live in? I know nurses make different wages depending on degree, place you live, and where you work.

Advice to a pre-nursing student?
Thank you for your answer! That gives me a lot of insight on what I should be doing now. I have more Gen Eds in the spring.. and hopefully i'll be accepted in by next fall. Good chance. But I have a job now so I am not like studying my heart out on all of it, but I am brushing up and refreshing my memory of anatomy, learning some pharmacology, and just reading the NCLEX when I can. And I am in the same boat as you- not able to apply for the nursing right away. I will have to be taking a lot more classes than just in the nursing program because it's 12 credits for fulltime and if I go fulltime I get my tuition paid for. And so I am planning on taking medical terminology and first responder for sure. Do you have any study methods that help you? Do you recommend a job while going to school fulltime, especially nursing program?

Advice to a pre-nursing student?
I am starting my gen ed's in the spring, then starting nursing in the summer. I'm taking a nursing program at my community college, which is a good program!! Any advice? My mom graduated from Nursing 1 and 2 about 10 years ago so she gave me her books. I have read through the NCLEX-PN by saunders and I love it. I learned a lot. I looked through the pharmacology book and am starting on my anatomy book. I am thinking about starting to look over the medical terminology. What advice do you have? I am thinking about printing handouts online and putting them all in a binder to help me learn before I get into the nursing 1. What helps you study? Sometimes I get so tired and I have no idea how to keep the energy in my body to study all that much. Any advice would really help! Thanks!:redbeathe

NCLEX and other questions!
Well, i am reading the book to get to know HOW nurses have to make their decisions and to know the processes of doing some things.. i'm not memorizing things with the books, I am teaching myself the processes basically of certain areas. I can't wait for my nursing to start..

I did it !... I am a nurse !
If you have any notes or anything to refer back on DO IT! Also, the NCLEX-pn is a great study guide.. it has practice questions and everything. Congrats and Good Luck!

NCLEX and other questions!
I was wondering how hard/easy it was taking it. I am a18 and I am starting as a freshmen in college for nursing and my mom was a nurse so I know more than the average teenager. I would hang out at her work all the time and watch what she did and all that. She gave me the NCLEX-PN Saunders Comprehensive Review and I have been studying it the past 2 weeks.. I went through the first 7 chapters and answered all the practice questions right without looking at the answers or looking back into the reading. I read the chapter until I know it and answer the questions. I want to know stuff before my nursing course/clinicals start so it's not so hard for me to take in all at once... If I study this book enough will I be ok on the NCLEX-PN board test? Also, I was wondering how hard it is to find a job after school. I have to move to des moines iowa in 2 years with my boyfriend, for his police academy, where I'm gonna finish hopfully with my BA but we are hoping for jobs to come easy! AND, I am thinking about taking the EMT course next summer and start working as an EMT for experience and a job! Would it be too much with my nursing courses. I will only be doing around 9 credits a semester with just my nursing I and nursing II the next semester... Or is the EMT just a waste of my time? Thanks!
