Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!
Contacting someone at ISU is probably your best bet.
Toll Free: 1-800-496-9613
If you have detailed questions about the LPN-BSN program, admissions
process, and/or submitting the admissions documents, please contact Kim
at 812-237-2318.
Those should help with any questions that you have.
Good Luck,

Congrats !!!!!!!There's nothing like the feeling of that passing grade popping up at the end of the test.
What did you use to study this one? TCN? The patho test was hard, I studied TCN and quickly read any books at the library I could get my hands on, but somehow I passed, I'm sure you'll do fine on that one also.
This BSN is absolutely not the easy was out. Just keep plugging along. Yesterday I remember thinking; this is like attacking a brick wall with a toothpick.(I'm doing Algebra and was having a meltdown) It's not speedy, but if you keep it up, each little chunk adds up.
Let us know which one you're doing next.
I used the TCN module. I took the test in the back a couple of times and studied what I got wrong. I found the practice test from Excelsior was worth the money. Any type of test questions you can get your hands on are worth it. Also I studied from the outline off of the Excelsior website and they have a few practice question there also.

Brenda J
They're correct about all but Tech writing cuz I'm in the ISU program and haven't taken it. lol! I have to retake public speaking (remember that drama? lol!) but they let me in despite that one. On the TCN paper are some lines gray and others white? The gray ones are the ones you need prior to applying. Lemme see if I still have mine somewhere...
Chaxanmom,
Do you know how many Phase 1 classes we are allowed to fail (C- or lower)? and what if we withdrew, got a "W" but didn't fail one of the Phase 1 classes? Does that count as a fail or a repeat?
I read on ISU website that you are allowed to repeat only 2 Phase 1 classes and 1 Nursing course- does a withdrawing (but not failing) the class count as a repeat?
Thanks for all your info!
Chaxamom do you know what class at CC woud be equivelent to the technical writing, I am not comfortable cleping this class would rather take at CC but they only off english reading and composition 101 and 102, along with other higher english classes such as library research and bibliogrophy, word literature I and II, eng lit I II, amer lit I II.
Hi Tracy,
I just took technical writing at my local cc online (called Technical Writing)- the college is Foothill College in the sf bay area in california. Anyone can apply and register for that school and take the class online, even if you don't live in the area. The class was hard work, but doable and it is 5 quarter units. I really urge you and everyone to take this class online at this school to satisfy the requirement, since you don't want to clep out of it.
Here is a list of online classes they offer:
http://www.foothillglobalaccess.org/cgi/register/register.cgi
They also offer other Phase 1 classes, as you can see on the list, like US History and Gen Psych, soc1, and Human development.
The school website is:
Online classes for Phase 1 courses at the local cc (rather than testing out) has motivated me tremendously cause I know it is hard for me to study and remember everything. I suggest you try one class online to get you started because then it'll give you a sense of what the ISU online lvn-bsn classes are going to be like and it'll force you and motivate you to begin studying.
BTW,
I just finished Tech Writing with a B, Ethics with an A and Religion with a B at my local cc. I know tech writing and ethics says upper level, but I don't know how introductory courses can be upper level or am I mistaken? I think when it comes down to it, they will accept the classes, because the course descriptions are identical to ISU's despite the upper level thing.
For those of you already enrolled in ISU, should I send my transcripts over, just to get the process going, even though I have the following Phase 1 classes left?
1. college algebra
2. info sys/comp appl
3. public speaking
4. anat/phys
5. chem
6. micro
Sorry one more question...
*Does anyone know what they mean by college algebra?
I took algebra 1 and 2 in high school, but not college algebra...is that trigonometry?
*English Comp II is required prior to phase 2?
but it doesn't say that on the sheet that TCN gives to you, it is not shaded. I took english 1c (critical thinking) and 1a (freshmen english), does this satisfy the eng comp II requirement?
*If you take classes that are upper level for ISU, like statistics, at the junior college, does that mean they won't accept it?
I already took stat, ethics and tech writing that says upper level, but they have the same course description as ISU.
Thanks a lot!

The number for Kim is correct...but that toll free # really doesn't go to ISU...not sure where it really goes...use 1.888.293.4842 (see http://www1.indstate.edu/nursing/)
I would start with contacting the NCBON directly via website, email, or phone and aske them if they accept.
new info posted on approved / accepted states for ISU's LPN-BS track....

We are still in the same boat. I have not started anything yet. Deciding on what ones to take at cc and what to test out on. Not to mention find the motivation to get started.
FYI about technical writing. You sooo should take the DSST for that. I took it today (used TCN module) and it was easy. Way easier than the technical writing course I attempted and then dropped a couple of years ago!

AFAIK none of that matters, just the actual nursing courses.
I know once I start I will keep going, but one thing after another keep popping up and the time just has not been right. Right now I am in the midts of finding a new job, which is proving difficult d/t that I have been working as a LVN for a yr but not in bedside nursing so still have no real experience. My job right now is not stable thanks to good old govenor Arnold and all his budget cuts.
