Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!
Hi Tracy,I just took technical writing at my local cc online (called Technical Writing)- the college is Foothill College in the sf bay area in california. Anyone can apply and register for that school and take the class online, even if you don't live in the area. The class was hard work, but doable and it is 5 quarter units. I really urge you and everyone to take this class online at this school to satisfy the requirement, since you don't want to clep out of it.
Here is a list of online classes they offer:
http://www.foothillglobalaccess.org/cgi/register/register.cgi
They also offer other Phase 1 classes, as you can see on the list, like US History and Gen Psych, soc1, and Human development.
The school website is:
Online classes for Phase 1 courses at the local cc (rather than testing out) has motivated me tremendously cause I know it is hard for me to study and remember everything. I suggest you try one class online to get you started because then it'll give you a sense of what the ISU online lvn-bsn classes are going to be like and it'll force you and motivate you to begin studying.
Thank you alot of the classes are on there for the fall and spring semesters. I am in so.ca would I be able to take the classes through this cc? How much per semester/ credit hour? How do you take the placement exams? This may actually be an option for me.
I know how you feel. I am not working right now either and I too don't have bedside care experience, like acute care exp. and that is what all of them want. I am looking for a job as well and its hard. If anyone knows any LVN openings in the sf bay area let me know!
SNF are always hiring LVN's....the hospitals from what I've heard aren't hiring LVN's for the most part....but there might be some, you never know.....Go online and check out the job postings for the hospitals and see if they're hiring LVN's.....Good Luck!

Hi Tracy,
Yes, it doesn't matter where you are. I had classmates in my online classes from all over, even in So. Cal and out of state. I think now the rate for all cc's per credit hour is $20, but if you qualify for a BOG fee waiver like I did, you would have to pay very little. I only had to pay $55 for 3 classes, from $224 that I originally owed due to the waiver. It is based on income. They accept financial aid as well. The placement exams you don't have to take necessarily, I never took them and was allowed to register. Just apply. the more you wait until you're ready, the more youre going to put it off. theres really not a perfect time for anything.
This summer, I think I am going to take info to info systems, abnormal psych and us history online.
Good luck

Thanks Latina for the info. Do you suggest that I apply to every SNF and wait for a call? Or just wait until there's an opening or ad out and then apply?
Do you know any in particular, seeing that you are from Monterey, I'm from San Jose? I used to work in Soledad Prison, they pay very well if you're looking for a job as well.
AFAIK none of that matters, just the actual nursing courses.
Sorry, what does AFAIK mean? Thanks for your fast reply. Are you positive none of that matters Chaxanmom, cause why else would they have that policy? I know the TCN rep told me the same thing, but I didn't believe him.
I just don't want to go through all the req's, only to find out I wasn't allowed to apply in the 1st place. I withdrew one whole semester that had 2 phase1 classes on there -micro and dev psych-so that would be the 2 repeats there allowed, unless they mean a failed class repeat, rather than a withdraw repeat. I failed Chemistry with a "D" and I have to repeat that course.
Chaxanmom, could you please find out for me what the policy is for sure? I did ask a guy working for the ISU program, but he wasn't sure either.
Many thanks!

AFAIK means "as far as I know" If you're not sure you are getting correct information then I recommend you call ISU themselves and ask. The contact information has been posted several times. No offense but you gotta do your own legwork. :) And ask *ISU* not TCN.

Oh no, no offense taken, I'm really grateful for any information I can get.
I did call ISU, and spoke with some guy who works for the lvn-bsn distance learning program and he didn't know. I guess I'm just gonna have to call the other people that were named.
Thanks for the info though.
Chaxanmom, Did you apply to ISU before finishing phase 1 and the classes they say are required to progress to phase 2? I am thinking of applying just so I can get the ball rolling and know what I need and don't need but not sure if its a good or bad idea....

Kim C. and Dr. M are the people to talk to.
I applied to ISU right away and then applied to the nursing program as soon as I finished the phase 1 classes that are pre-reqs. Some you can finish later.
Hi Everyone!
I am an LPN who signed up for TCN a year ago. Due to many obligations I have been unable to start my modules until now. It is so encouraging to see all of you on here that are making such great headway with the program!
I have a few questions if there is anyone out there willing to answer them.
1) I know I should probably contact TCN about this, but can anyone tell me what is going on with the upper level classes requirement of 18 hours changing to 12 hours? How is this affecting what classes you have to test out of?
2) Anyone in Illinois out there that has done their clinicals, or is doing their clinicals right now? Can you tell me how that is going?
3) Anyone tested out of Ethics yet? How did it go?
I know I am asking for alot of info, thanks so much for your time! :heartbeat
I am super excited to be joining all of you in the quest of obtaining that BSN!
