Here's a new sticky for students involved in online/distance BSN programs through Indiana State University. Enjoy!
TEAS was super easy. I talked to ISU today actually. I was supposed to hear an answer by today and didn't so I called. Apparently their meeting to decide who they are accepting got pushed back to the end of the month. :trout: They are trying to torment me I think. The woman I talked to said my TEAS scores were some of the highest she's seen and I'm transferring in with a 4.0 but I'm still not sure what's going on with my public speaking Dantes exam (long story) so that's the only thing I'm worried about. **biting nails**
As the Representative explained to me that "they never reject anybody because unlike traditional nursing program, there is a limited space availability with a clinical instructor, ISU online does not since you will be set up with a 1 on 1 preceptorship." Unless he lied to me?? But can somebody tell me if what he told me is true? ANd if it is the
It seems to me that it's going to "HAND ON" experience only. A lot of it has to do with the fact that as an LVN, you already have a lot of experience. The only new stuff you will learn is IV meds, PICCs, and etc. Most of this needs tobe done hands on not thru a lab. Also as a BSN graduate your supposed to be ready to handle Administrator roles. You will encounter so many ADN graduates in the hospital setting, but with a BSN you will be able to mange people as well as be a bedside nurse. Clinicals have to be with a BSN nurse anyway. YES and this is as good as any other BSN program, I checked into going to UCLA for my MSN and all they care about is a BSN wiith a good GPA. good luck... I live in ONtario if you want ot orm a study group.
Sabrosura...are you currently enrolled in the program already? If so, how do you like it so far? Any complain? I'm in LA..a bit far from where you are..but we should definitely make contact. Feel free to email me. This goes the same for any Californian that want to make a group contact with me so we can help each other out to our way for BSN!!!!

Nope. It's easiest to use the modules for the 4 nursing courses you test out of though. They are written specifically for those tests. I've taken one of them...taking another one Friday. And many of the test questions were straight out of the practice test.
Which test out are you taking friday? I took 106 (mental health) without studying the TCN guides and thought it was pretty hard....had to retake it actually and then I passed. It sounds like a lot of money for the TCN materials but if it made passing easier.....Dr. Miller told me to go on to blackboard and read over all of the study list for each test out. She said that if I study and know everything on the list I should be fine. Can you describe the TCN for us? Are they set up like a paperback study guide with information to read and practice tests in the back or what? I would like to know more about them before I hand out the $$$. They have copies at the ISU campus that you can make copies of....they just can't leave the campus. Anyone live close to ISU campus that you could make copies for us???

I have a question about online program, specifically Indiana State U. Online. How do we learn to do lab? As the representative explained to me, that we will do clinical, 5 hrs a week with a 1 on 1 proctor. But who and how will we learn to do hand on labs....most will b like LVN school i would think. So are we suppose to learn while in hospital only?My second question is: Will BSN degree thru online schools...ISU Online, be as good as the traditional BSN from other traditional nursing programs?
I'm also in California, so I would appreciate it if someone can answer my 2 questions :) Thank you in advance. Would be cool to form study group for people in Los Angeles area. :)

ISU is just as good as traditional because it is the exact same content and requirements as the on campus students. On your transcript it will just say Indiana State it doesn't specify if you attended class anymore than it would if you were an on campus student.
Not sure what you mean about labs though. You mean nursing skills like starting IVs, etc? You learn the technique with videos and such through your instructor then you practice with your preceptor just like you would a clinical instructor. Most of the skills you should already know from LPN school though.

106 was the easiest test I've taken in a long time. Like I said, many of the questions were from the study guide. I got a 94%. I'm taking Nursing Care of Adults on Friday. The TCN study guide is just a binder format with chapters, etc like a book. There are activities and questions for each chapter and then practice test at the end.

No idea if that's true or not. I wasn't concerned about not getting in at all but I was worried about not getting in that semester d/t that test. I did get in though and started my ISU classes last month.

No it's not just hands on. You have tests, quizzes, lots of reading requirements, research papers, tutorials, etc. You are responsible for the same content as the on campus students. This is not a "virtual university" so if you go into it thinking it is then you're going to be surprised at what is required of you.
LVN Los Angeles. I'm in so. bay area and also trying to get into ISU. I have all pre and co rec's to do.Would love to create a study group.
