Hi all....I am a current ISU LPN to BSN student. I am am finishing my first year of nursing courses. I still have some general education courses to do but I am working on them at the same time. I try to take my general ed. classes at my local community college or test out but I have taken some at ISU as well.

If anyone has questions on specific courses feel free to ask.

Hi Chelle,

Since you've so kindly offered :), I do have a question to ask. I've already obtained my AA/AS degree...in general education for transfer to Calstate. After speaking to the representative, i now realized that i still have a few elective courses to take..such as World Religion, Literature, and a few others..can i take these classes at cc while enrolled with ISU for nursing Phase II? (Per the rep. I am qualify to enter into phase II, just that i still need to test out on computer course) THanks Chelle!

I am an LPN from Missouri. Have been an LPN x 14 years. I am wanting to use TCN for all pre-reqs and nursing courses, start to finish through ISU. Is this recommended or should I try to get the modules on ebay and test myself without TCN as far as I can? I just don't really know how to coordinate all of this, that's why I really want to use TCN but I am really hearing mixed messages about using them. Anyone from around St. Louis Missouri used them? How did it work for you and where did you do your clinicals, testing, etc?

Meet with TCN so you can sit down and evaluate what courses you need. They give you a great little list to take with you. Don't sign anything! Then come back, look on eBay for modules, ask about resources for that test, etc. You can always sign with TCN later but it sounds to me like most people manage to get all their testouts done without TCN. I like the modules for the convenience but if you can get them cheaper on eBay it only makes good sense!

How do you know if TCN modules on ebay are current or does it matter since it's just a study guide? Also, can I set up my own testing once I've gone through the modules? Where are these normally done at? I have the grid from TCN. They keep calling me to give them my answer. Also, when you take the test, if you pass, then you get credit for this just like you would from a traditional college?

Good question about currency. I have no idea to be honest. I'm not so sure it matters on most topics but I can't say for sure. You have to set up your own testing regardless of whether you get your modules from TCN or not. I do mine at a local community college testing center. You get CLEP credit (or Dantes or whichever) and it depends on the school whether they accept it or not. Most schools will accept a certain amount of CLEP credit. Although courses that are normally lab sciences such as micro and A&P you can basically plan on retaking if you decide later to transfer to a traditional program.

Am I understanding correctly that TCN is just providing the modules to study for the CLEP exams? So if I go the the CLEP exam website, sign up for a test, I can use ANY recommended study guides for this, not necessarily TCN? Is that all the phase I "classes" for TCN are? CLEP exams?

Of course. TCN isn't a school. Never claimed to be. You buy study guides from them. They offer some services like the pass guarantee and some support services but you don't go to classes or anything.

I tested out of a few of my pre-reqs and others I took as regular classes over the years. You can use any study guide, textbook, whatever it takes to get the job done. You don't *have* to test out of your phase I. You can take them as actual classes if you want to.

Thanks. It's like the light is dawning. LOL I knew they weren't a school but I guess I didn't understand how they were doing this without being a school. DUH CLEP exams. So I guess what it comes down to is how many of the CLEP exams do I want to do on my own before I sign with them?

Well, the modules are like $500 a pop so probably you want to do as many as you can first! It's entirely possible to do the whole thing without TCN though. Just so ya know. :)

Does anyone know what the pass rate is for this program? The online LVN/LPN to BSN?

And also, before we enroll at our local CC for the general ed classes, how can we find out if the class is equivalent or not?

Thank YOu

I would imagine you find out just like you would any other time you transfer from one school to another. I called them about a couple of mine and sent them the course description. ISU is a real brick and mortar school so they have people who can answer questions including that and pass rate. I would imagine the pass rate is for the whole school though, I doubt they divide it between on-campus and distance students because the content is the same for both.
