Inappropriate Movies

Published

So....we have a lovely living room at my facility with a huge flat screen tv. The residents love watching movies. One of the family members complained that the movie "Die Hard" with Bruce Willis was inappropriate! These people are adults and they picked the movie. Do all y'all censor what the residents are allowed to watch? It seems we have plenty more important things to worry about.

Last movie day at my facility the residents watched 40 year old virgin. They loved it!

If some sone complains, tell them the movie is chosen by major vote of the people who live here and that there is an option to go to other activities. If they continue to complain, I used to say, would you like them to make some choices for you. I had some old vets. They would love to live with family, have a cold beer, pizza, fresh bread. If you do not like what the movie is take you family member to your house.

My mom is 82. Hard life. If she wants something, I indulge as best as possible. I also chuckle, when someone tells me, it is bad for her health, she is old, let her have it and die at 83 with a smile on her face.

Makes me a bad daughter and my mom a happy person.:yeah:

if they were watching wizard of oz or the sound of music then someone would complain that the movie wasn't interactive enough......

it's the resident's home, they can watch and do (even sex) what they want. the only issue is if they're incompetent, then they don't have all the choices.

Unless they have been declared to be incompetent, yeah, they do. Except when it comes to blowing the joint, er, um, eloping.

I would ask that person if they would be fine with someone coming to their home and telling them what they should or shouldn't watch.

At my former job one of the residents would get up in the middle of the night and watch Media on the big screen. We didn't do a thing about it because the only people able to get up and go to the recration room at that time were ambulatory and alert and oriented x 3. If they complained about it we would have stopped it but no one ever did.

If the majority of the residents wanted to watch Media, I think we'd go to Blockbusters and rent something for them. That one family member who did complain about the Die Hard movie was told she could have her mom sit in one of the other living rooms but we were not going to change the movie.

If it's the resident's children who are complaining about the movies their parents watch, well, they are treating them like children. Not cool.

If they wanted to watch hard-core Media in a commons area, that could be tricky as residents who were uncomfortable with it and staff could construe it as sexual harassment. If it was in the resident's room and he/she could make that decision, not a problem.

Die Hard is pretty bad ass!!! There are more "inappropriate" movies out there.

Sometimes when I need a really good raunchy laugh...I watch a Will Ferrell movie, like Blades of Glory or worse yet, Step Brothers. I practically need to wear a Depends. I laugh so hard. If I ever have to be in LTC or assisted living, I will lobby for a Will Ferrell film festival. The adult children need to lighten up and realizetheir parents are adults and can watch what they want.

I could go for an inappropriate movie right now! :lol2:

Ha. The other day at work one of the other CNA's was helping me clean up a patient who was alert/nonverbal and we tried to find something for her to watch before we left the room. When we came across some movie with a romance scene going on, her face LIT UP. Huge smile. Never had seen the patient so happy before and we both laughed and just let her watch.

If it makes her happy, what does it hurt really?
